Partners for Life by Helen R. Myers (no.370 - March 1989)

The slogan 'Partners......Friends........Lovers' of this book was the first thing that made me buy this book as it fits into my best friends to lovers genre that I enjoy reading. This book is also one of the books that I have unearthed from the attic this weekend. It will be one of my favourites too.

Braden Manning could think of only thing to do; find his ex-partner, kendall North and protect her. A troubed young man they'd helped put in prison was back on the streets, seeking revenge. Braden and Kendall had been a dynamic police team and the best of friends-until love had gotten in the way.

When Kendall had left, she thought she'd never see Braden again, but the vision of him standing at her door was her wildest dream come true. Although their lives were different now, the passion between them hadn't changed. As the dangers closed in around them, their hearts gave way to dreams too long denied.....

What stopped them from getting together was explained right from the beginning of the book was that he was married although unhappily. Their friendship was very good until they both realised that their feelings for each other were getting stronger. Kendall made the very hard decision of leaving and moving to another town and force. I feel that Kendall made the right decision of leaving which stopped them effectively in their tracks before anything untoward happened between them.

Everythng regarding their feelings, past and what has since happened was discussed at the beginning of the book when Braden went to Kendall after learning of the danger to her from the released convict. The rest of the book consisted of threats received and surveillance carried out by them in order to catch the culprit. The confrontation at the end felt like an anticlimax but the story was completed in a satisfactory way.

I enjoyed the secondary characters which consisted of Kendall's new partner and his pregnant wife and Adam Rhodes who was friends with Kendall. I loved their interactions and the conversations that took place between them. Kendall and Braden love story was fantastic and consisted of all the ingrediants of a good romance.

Fabulous read. Definately going in my re-read pile.
