Alas, Thorne Smith did not finish this book before he died; it was taken up by Norman Matson. The style is rather different, although there is still enough of Thorne Smith's racy humor to satisfy.
This book was made into a movie: I MARRIED A WITCH
Wallace T Wooley, a wealthy widower, vegetarian health fanatic, teetotaler, and all around stick in the mud has his life turned upside down when he comes on the scene of a hotel fire, unaccountably finds himself running inside, and rescues a very lucious and entirely naked lady. The next thing he knows, he has married her, much to the consternation of his secretary who is secretly and passionately in love with him. The witch in question is a gold-digger for the ages, and intends to use Wallace to get everything she ever wanted. And when death finally rids him of her physical presence, he discovers to his horror that she has cursed him with the ability to hear thoughts! And only booze will shut out the voices! And thereby hangs the tale of one of the most remarkable binges in literature.
