I finally have some pictures of the new house to share. I'm not going to go overboard and show you every room, but I thought you might like to see my office and a few other rooms.

First up: My office. 2 views here...one from the door from the foyer, and the other from the family room. I can close it off from the family room via pocket doors, and from the foyer with a french door. We have 2 desks in here - I have my OWN computer and space now! Wheeee! A new filing cabinet...so much more attractive than the old metal versions, don't you think?
My futon for curling up and reading or working on those silly copy edits, and a brand new bookcase considering the movers ruined my other one. No pictures on the wall yet except one...This one is called SUNDAY MORNING and it's a signed limited edition print by cover artist Larry Roibal, who did my cover for Hired By The Cowboy.
I love working in here with the windows open...I can look outside at our front yard and hear the birds as well.
Next up - the kitchen. Again with the pocket door, because that closes the house off from the garage door, the half-bathroom and the laundry room. Mostly we leave it open, at least for now. But look at all the glorious cupboard space! And my island with a wine rack! It's a dream. The table and chairs "nook" is bayed out, with a door to the deck.
Then we have the bathroom. Bathrooms as a rule are not a highlight, unless you've had 4 people sharing ONE, then having an ensuite is a huge deal. The one on the right is a pic of the tub - which is jetted. Ahhhhhhh. The other pic is of course the pe
destal sink...and beside it, though you can't see it, is an oversize shower. It is, of course, connected to the master bedroom, which is also connected to the walk in closet.
Here are my stairs....I love them too. Or at least the look of them. I am getting exercise going up and down - we lived in a bungalow for 11 years! There are fifteen of them.
And finally, this is the very front portion of our yard. We busted our butts and cleaned it out on Saturday, and then mulched it. I took this picture from our bedroom. This is what I see from my office window as well.
So this is our little bit of heaven...now I'd better get to work!

Looks like a wonderful house!
I can see why you would love working in your office. It looks so cosy. Hope you will spend many hours there as I will get to read the results of them.

Looking good! What are
Looking good! What are these "pocket doors" of which you speak? I don't know the term. Perhaps a door sized so it could fit in your pocket? LOL

Pocket doors
Frenchie, if you look at the kitchen pic, that is a pocket door with all the panes in it. It doesn't hinge and swing in and out...it disappears back into the wall, into its "pocket". I love them. If the tv is loud or whatever, I can slide them shut and work away in peace.
The other thing I love about this house is all the windows. There is always light.

Ah all is explained
Now I understand pocket doors. I think we called them sliding doors when I was growing up.
It does look lovely.

sliding doors
Sliding doors to me means the ones with the tracks...like patio doors, you know? These ones are hung differently.
Michelle pointed out in e-mail that my garden has lots of room for work. Don't I know it! It was choked full of "undesirables". I was telling her we moved 3 spruce trees OUT and cut down an elder, and cut out a lot of the suckers around the maples. I'm hoping over the next few years we can add lots of perennials so that it grows up lush and beautiful...but we had to start somewhere! It's actually much bigger than it looks in the picture as well. There looks to be a lot of space, but there are four grown trees, one small maple, 2 spruce, 4 hostas, lilies, phlox, a rhododendron, 2 peonies, irises, and an as-yet unidentified shrub.
There are 2 smaller "beds" on either side of the driveway, as well as in front of the house. THat doesn't include the new garden I want to put in! But I'm not sure it's going to happen this year. I still have some painting to finish up inside!

I sympathize with your
I sympathize with your garden "time". I have 3/4 of an acre at the 'new' house we bought in 12/2006 for our retirement home in 10 years. For almost a year, it was full of stinging nettles. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stinging_nettle) Then we had the entire property plowed under and planted pasture grass. This year, in addition to the grass, we have thistles—which are charming in fields along the roadside, but less charming in an orcahrd or a backyard—and plantain (http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/p/placom43.html), which is not stinging or sticking, but destroys the symetry of the grass with its broad leaves—and comfrey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comfrey), ditto the comments on plantain.
We do nothing but work in the garden all weekend and if we take a weekend off, the result is chaos. Good thing we have 10 years until retirement. It wil probably take that long to wrestle the garden into submission.
Of course, it's not all negative (though Monday morning makes me think it is) We have raspberries and blackberries (wild and cultivated), black, red and white currants, rhubarb and old apple tree. We planted 10 fruit trees (apple, pear, plums, cherry and walnut). We have forsythia, white lilacs, fushia and hydrangea. So the yard looks nice and is productive.

I know about your pocket
I know about your pocket doors, though I have not heard them called that. My grandparents had these doors to separate the dining room from the bedroom and the living room in their 1910 Victorian.

OH MY! I have yet to get
OH MY!
I have yet to get my lilacs, but I know at least 2 have to go in.
And we do have raspberries and blueberries! We had blueberry pancakes on the weekend.
I considered planting some apple trees. BUT I grew up on an apple farm and they can be a lot of work if you want to keep them properly. I think what we'll probably end up doing is driving a short way to the Annapolis Valley and u-picking. I spent so much time there as a child that it will be fun to go back.
We are currently sitting on an acre and a third, but some of that is brush and woods, and the back yard has a fenced in area for the dog and also a pool. :-)

Donna's new house!!
Donna, Frenchie sent me over, and oh-my...the new house is beautiful!! I love the office and your view! And I'm so a fan of pocket doors! I understand your thrill with the wine rack. We bought one not long ago, and it's marvelous...except my dh hates to see an open hole, so as I drink a bottle (not a whole bottle, by myself, all at once) he feels we need to go out and buy another to fill it. Come to think of it, that's not a problem at all! Congrats on the house!
Poor Frenchie and your ongoing battle with your garden...you know my motto, "Have Stones...Will Travel!" LOL

Stones!
Holly, I could use some stones. The two side beds have rocks forming the border, but not the middle one. Of course I could just go pick some with my trusty wheelbarrow. My dh and I have a joke now...Nova Scotia is lots of R & R. Meaning Rocks and Roots. Digging holes for anything has been a challenge!
And re the wine rack...did you notice how empty mine is??? It's a travesty. Of course it would look differently if I'd stop drinking out of it. But what's a girl to do? Especially when company comes knocking?
It is one of the nice things about here, beyond all the open space and quiet (I don't miss the city AT ALL)...our friends live on the same street, and occasionally drop in for a visit. We had good friends in Calgary, but rarely did anyone just drop over. :-)

And I can definitely see the advantage of living where you are now over Calgary. I never, ever thought that Edmonton or Calgary would get to be 1 million plus people... Jeepers!
You have a beautiful home Donna... and I love what I can see of your yard... gardens... *sigh* I do so love my gardens!

How nice, Donna!
Congratulations on your beautiful home. Moving in and getting settled is a lot of work. I know because we've bought two house already. In fact, we're in the process of selling our current home - wanting to upgrade. We have a three bedroom, three bath home, but our neighborhood leaves something to be desired (small, but noisy town). I'd love to have that really great view from my office that you have. How peaceful and serene. We're thinking a rural property, too. My daughter wants, of all things, a baby goat. Yep, you read right. A goat. She fell in love with one when we visited a local apple orchard/miniature farm. My DH grew up a farm boy and so he's seriously contemplating the idea as well. And as long as I don't have to muck out any barns, I'm fine with the idea - lol!
In your idyllic setting, it'll probably be more natural than ever to pump out good stories for us. So keep 'em coming! And I wish you all the happiness and joy in your new home!

Aw, thanks Amanda!
No goats for us. There is a restrictive covenant against any farm animals...so no chickens or ponies either! But I'm okay with that.
And your lips to God's ears about churning out stories. LOL.
I love how I can leave the blinds open in the bedroom, and the windows too, and still have it dark and quiet.
Now it's back to the WIP - I'm really into the homestretch now!

Is that a great big Welcome sign in the house picture?
I think I see it but I can't figure out exactly what it is or how it is displayed. It is an awesome house and yes you will get your excersize doing the stairs.
I cross-sitched a saying for my entrance way that reads "LOVE SPOKEN HERE" but like your pillow better.
I think I said this on Hilly's site but your dog is so cute.

It's a flag
...it seems everyone here has one. And they change them with the seasons. So we'll have welcome and birdies on it for now, but we'll probably have a different one for Christmas. Maybe even thanksgiving. LOL.

Every house on the eastern coast of Canada and USA seemed to have a flag when we travelled there. We tried one in Calgary but the wind did it in.

Question from FF
Donna, what is your driveway covered in? Gravel? If so, are your finding upkeep a problem?

March's Member of the Month!
Crushed rock,
and yes. I don't like it. There is not enough up to our front step either. There is also crushed rock in the ditch but so much of it has either been eroded away or whatever that the black landscape stuff they put underneath is showing and weeds are coming through anyway.
What I'd like to do is pave it...makes it much easier for blowing snow, but for a drive this size it is approx 10k! So we won't be doing it this year!

Kaelee, I know what you mean about the wind in Calgary! There's a substantial amount of the blowing stuff here, too, so we'll see how it holds up. The bracket already came down once, but that was because the screws that came with it were a little short when you consider the tree trunk is curved. We just put longer screws in.
