Playboy's Ruthless Payback by Laura Wright (SD 1834)

Back Cover:

The Seduction Plan.  An eye for an eye was the motto Mac Valentine lived by.  So when a business rival dared to sully his reputation, Mac decided to strike back using his enemy's daughter - Olivia Winston.  He'd hire her, seduce her, then walk away.

But Olivia was no easily manipulated pawn.  She tempted him like no other woman.  And for once Mac wondered if his plan for revenge would destroy not only his conquest, but himself as well.

My Review:

The heroine had an unsavoury sexual history, which might make readers feel half uncomfortable and half sad for her.  (She went through a phase of casual sex after her mother died and was labelled the "school skank", the heroine even had a relationship with her teacher, which is an abuse of authority).  She's been punishing herself for ten years ever since getting over the humiliation of that.  Now in the present she's being targetted by the hero who wants to use her for sex to hurt her father.

The relationship between the hero/heroine is actually very positive and warm and accepting, which is good, I was glad the hero never made her feel lesser for her past (her past was never even called "mistakes" by the hero).  I liked how from early on the hero felt choked up when he saw the heroine and was picturing her in the role of wife and liking the image.

The resolution of the fight between Mac and Olivia's father was pretty much a non-confrontation: they didn't shake hands, apologize, and have a happy in-law relationship in their future.  It was an enjoyable read, the feelings of the hero/heroine were strong and visible, and the heroine was unapologetic about her life choices as an adult, though she regretted the childish things she did in high school.

Rating: 3/5 stars, somewhat unsavoury topic, but it was a well-told story of characters I liked/respected.
