A shiny new blog, a shiny new opportunity to discuss romance!
I think I'll use this spot to review some of my all-time favourite werewolf romances; as my name suggests, I've got a soft spot for them.
While there's quite a few out there, I tend to have rather precise standards for what meets my tastes:
* The werewolves are not inherently evil. A psychopath who happens to be a werewolf, sure, but it's rather silly to make the wolf half evil -- domesticated dogs have killed more people in the past year than wolves have in the past century.
* The female lead cannot be a weak ditz. This is partialy personal taste, but really -- an alpha male needs an alpha female to be his mate; someone to be his match and his equal.
* On that note, the Alpha Male should act like an actual alpha rather than an aggressive jerk. An Alpha will fight to protect his mate, his pack, his territory, but he'll never act against them. Wolves mate for life, and he'll be devoted to his mate. And have you seen photos of wolves playing on their own? They're adorable.
So, yeah, there's an idea of what to expect in the reviews I'm going to post. And hey, I can use this as an excuse to reread some of my favourites!

re: werewolf romances
I love werewolf stories so I am definitely going to be reading your reviews!
Great standards you have...I feel the same generally, though I don`t mind a heroine who starts out weak and grows through the story (I`m thinking of Rachel Vincent`s Stray, or Carrie Vaughn`s Kitty and the Midnight Hour, for example).
Some of my favourite werewolf books are Kelley Armstrong`s Bitten and Kit Whitfield`s Benighted...though I don`t focus on romances (and certainly I wouldn`t count the last one as a romance).
Looking forward to seeing what your favourites are!
Character growth is
Character growth is something else entirely, Amalthea -- I'm thinking more of the ones who start out weak and remain weak at the end. They need to be protected at every turn and never even try to defend themselves in a crisis. Ones like that . . . I just don't get them.
re: wimpy heroines
I completely agree--I can`t handle that type of heroine (said sarcastically) either. Yuck!
And the other horrible heroine...the TSTL (too stupid to live--credit someone here) girl. Cannot stand stupid lead characters.
Heh. The heroine of the
Heh. The heroine of the first book I'm reviewing is the exact opposite of TSTL. I think you'll like her!
re: opposite of TSTL
Excellent! I look forward to your review!

Another Werewolf fan here!
Before I joined the Challenge last year my paranormal reads were few and far between. Then I got here and someone's review pointed me to Angela Knight ~ and I know that her stories are more than werewolf ~ but the story that I first read of hers was all that and more. Then I found another author ~ or five.
I have to say, one of my favourites ~ in my limited knowledge ~ is Kelley Armstrong.
I'll be checking in on your reviews too Werefan!
