Posting pics

I am going to attempt to explain posting pics/book covers.  If you know much about computers, simply do a drag and drop from the cover you want to the comment box.

In more detail, this is how I do it: (I'm sure there is a shorter version of how to this, but at least it works for now)

  1. I get the cover I want from say the Harlequin site, for example, Tessas latest book. But I made sure to use the thumbnail( the thumbnail is easier to post than the full size pic so far here)like here:   http://ebooks.eharlequin.com/39994FF5-9BA3-4F5B-BA01-61174D1075DE/10/126/en/SearchResults.htm?SearchID=8631840&Page=2
  2. I right clicked on the picture to get its properties, then Copied the link that ends in .jpg or .gif .....looks something like this: http://images.contentreserve.com/ImageType-200/1204-1/%7BB001C0A4-C69A-41BC-A6F7-DFE891D5C30F%7DImg200.jpg  The reason I do the next step is because the drag and drop does not seem to work unless the picture image is not linked.
  3. I took the link and uploaded it to my account at photobucket, and then clicked on the cover I uploaded, so it wasnt linked any longer.
  4. Then I made the window small, rather than full size, and basically dragged and dropped the actaul picture into my blog box.

This is something new, that I havent used on any other site before.  I hope it works for you, and I am sure there are less steps to take once we all figure it out!

Take Care,

Tammy

Thanks Tammy!  I managed to

Thanks Tammy!  I managed to get it to work using this method...uploaded it to my website like usual and then dragged & dropped from a second window.  Never would have figured that out on my own, though!

bravo!

Neither would I have...I was a beta tester and knew about it from there.  But they also had another way to post pics that was easy.  It is missing right now, but I do not think that was intended.  I'm sure it will they will put it back up as soon as they can.

So I guess my instructions made some sense, good to know!

Oh cool .......

Thanks Tammy ... I was wondering how you were getting the covers to come up

I hope they give us the editing tools we were able to use on the Beta site ..... I miss being able to change the font colour  ..... I don't think they ever got centering fixed on the beta site, I like to be able to center things .... that's my need to balance things coming out!  LOL

Thanks so much!

It worked! Smile

Hey Katherine!

I was just on your blogSmile

Yes, I think they intended us to have the tree editor....it must have gotten lost in the transition somehow.

Without the tree editor, though...I can't seem to resize images, thus trying to use only thumbnail images, so I don't post huge covers.

I was wondering if we would still be able to do that. I'm going to go give it a try! I like being able to see book covers.

Hey Sarah,

another question

Tammy, I noticed that when you post book reviews you can see the pic and a few words on the page where everyone's posts are listed.  I have only posted one book review so far but nothing came up on the book challenge page.  I had a picture in my post.....how do you get the pic and the first few lines to show up where people look to decide which post to go into?

Thanks

re: another question

Hey Shelley!

Underneath where you are pasting your picture, there is a tree, which I will refer to as the tree editor.  If you click on your cover photo, and then click on tree editor, it should open up for you.  Inside there is a drop down menu, which gives you the option of "align right" or left, or center, etc.  I pick align left.  Then I close the tree editor, and when I type in my summary, I do it directly to the right of the picture.

I hope that helps!!!Smile

LOL

I havne't even tried. I've read all the directions here but figure I'd have to go take drugs or something after trying. May wait till my kids come over and have them do it for me.

Awesome Tammy,  Exactly

Awesome Tammy,  Exactly what i really wanted and needed, step by step instructions for posting pics/book covers! Cool

I can't wait to try it out! By the looks of things, it's working for everyone, so i'm excited. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow if i don't get a chance tonight.

Thanx muchly!

Now I do need help...

I tried to post another pic tonight and nothing happened.  I thought maybe I'd done something wrong with the pic on photobucket so tried another pic from earlier (that worked) and still nothing.  Could the tree editor not be working?

Tammy - i would appreciate your other instructions too.  I know so little of this that I am enjoying the tutorials!

thanks,

LOL I can't understand a word you just said!!! LOL But this entire discussion has me dizzy! :) I want to learn this so bad but it is not making sense. I will need to read everything really slow. The book I am reading now is a Harlequin so maybe I will try to post the picture when I blog it.

I understand that to have Photobucket, you don't need to pay? But can someone tell me what Photobucket is and how do I get there?

Thanks,
Margie :)

Hey Debi!!

WHat kind of issue are you having trying to post your pic into your profile, is it a size issue?

"I would be the most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves"...Anna Quindlen

Hey Deb!

There is an easier way now, since I posted the above directions.  I'm going to put it one post below.  You may be able to do it fairly easily.

*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^

"I would be the most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves"...Anna Quindlen

Hey Kathy, ElleJay, and Margie, and everyone!

Okay, here is a possibly simpler way to post pics.

1. Follow steps one and two in the above blogpost above. (Skip the photobucket stuff)

2. You should now open the tree editor, the little pic below your comment or blog box.  There is a line where you can insert an URL, paste it there.

3. Below where you paste it is an alignment box.  You should set it at left

4. Then there are three places to set numbers/borders.  I suggest you set them all at 5.

That should be it, and I hope this makes it simpler.  Please let me know how it all goes, and good luck!!!

Tammy

Profile pic

I'm guessing it's a size issue.  I use the browse feature and find the photo and then I hit the update or whatever the save button is called... and it goes back to being blank and nothing happened.  I tried my yahoo avatar image from last year, the Kwips Got Klovers image, and even a photo I had of some of my fave hockey players but none loaded.

Thanx very much for all the

Thanx very much for all the instructions Tammy. I haven't had a chance to try it yet...but i want to very soon.

Kathy D

It worked!

Thanks Tammy (and Christa too).  I managed to get the pic in and I even have borders (how exciting!)  I still picked up the pic at photobucket cuz I'd put it there earlier, but I'll just try pics from other sites now.

Hey Debi!

Do you happen to have a program like Microsoft Office Picture Manager?  Thats what I used to get my picture to size.

If not, can you tell me which system you use?  I may still be able to help you.

Yes, some of mine I will still put at photobucket, like personal pics, or cover that need editing first.  It's still a useful site.  But it's certainly nice to be able to post both ways, don't you think?

Tammy, My profile pic is of the female yorky puppies i told you about. I get one of the two on the right hand side...the breeder is keeping one of them, and i get the other.

I've booked my flight and i pick her(Nicky) up in Calgary on Feb.3rd and fly home with her on Feb.4th(my b-day). It's going to be a rush rush nerveracking trip, so i'll be glad when i'm home safe and sound with her.

Hey Kathy!

Oh, wow Kathy!  That is coming up so soon! I am soooo excited for you!  The puppies look really cute.

Are you nervous about the flight?

Hey Tammy, Yes, the trip

Hey Tammy, Yes, the trip day is coming waaay fast...and yes..i'm very worried about the flight.

I did mention i'm bringing my blowdryer, incase the wing tips freeze? It is still very much winter here, which for me will make it even scarier...but...if i'm going to be doing a little bit of flying back and forth...i guess i best get used to it eh. Undecided Smile

Kathy D

Hey Kathy D!

You will be in my thoughts....but to help you feel a little better...the weather here gets super cold, and the flights don't seem to have any issues.  My MIL is coming out here on the 31st.  And last year we got down to -19.5F or -28.6C during that week, and all the planes here were fineSmile

I suppose you do need to get used to it, but its understandable to be a wee bit scared.  I'm proud of you!

Thanx Tammy! Smile

Kathy D

Hey Sam!

Okay, I just looked at the way we can post a pic from our computers.  It looks like you can if you are doing a personal blog post, but not a book review.

So, if you goto post a Blog Entry, and scroll down a little bit, there wil be a spot that says "Image." To the right of it, it will say "Browse." And below it a button that says "Upload."

If you open "browse," you can look for the image you want on you computer. And then proceed tp upload it.

I hope this helps!!  Let me know if you run into any problems, and I will try and help you.SmileGood Luck!

Hi Tammy

Thanks -- but what about on a board, like this one? I wanted to post some pictures of quilts I made to a board, and I suppose I could do it in a blog, but wonder if that would be appropriate? Maybe... something on crafts people do... Maybe I'll try that...

Hey Sam!

The only way I know how to do that would be to upload the picture I wanted to post to a place like photobucket(it's free)....and the copy the URL into the tree editor which is available in all the comment boxes.

I hope that works for you, Sam!!

And if I do learn another way to do it, I'll let you knowSmile

Thank you so much for the information on how to post a picture. I have wanted to do that for a long time. I love that eHarlequin has made it so easy but I still would not have known how to do it without your help.

Maybe you can edit the top of this discussion with the information you posted on January 13th. I was trying to do it the other way with no luck. . .but I am very computer challenged. Then I saw your post of the 13th and I did it.

Thank you for the kind words!

Hey Margie!

You are welcome, and thank you for the kind words!  I would love to be able to edit the above info with the post from Jan 13th, but unfortunately, my early blog posts have lost their edit buttons.  I had actually posted this blog prior to them bringing the Tree Editor button in, which is really much simpler than my above entry.  Anyways, I am so glad I could help, and if you do run into issues, please feel free to ask!  Sorry it took me so long to reply this time, my MIL was in town for 10 days.  (Liz's book has a great cover!!Smile)

Hey Rosepearl!

You are welcome!!  I am so glad I was able to help!  If you need to trim your cover, you can click on the cover, and then click on the tree editor button below you comment/blog entry box.  And then adjust the numbers.  You may need to play around with it a bit.  Happy Reading to you too!!

Hey Christa!

I agree, KatherineT has some very helpful entries!
