As writers, we know the power of words.
So picture this.
Kidlet went first at the dentist, got the all clear.
I sit in chair, feeling rather nervous but trying not to look it for his sake.
Sunglasses on, drool bib on, spotlight on, chair tilts back, dentist starts poking.
I had Xrays during check up last year, so won't need them again until next year, she says.
Then the next words out of her mouth was something along the lines of '318 molar...extraction.'
I froze (like I wasn't already stiff with fear.) My eyes widened. I wanted to bolt.
While she casually continues her examination, chatting about Michael Jackson and some dish she made for dinner and other inane things.
Extraction...echoed through my head as I tried not to wince.
The good news? My teeth were fine, no fillings required (though the clean was painful!)
Bad news? My upper right wisdom tooth will have to be extracted in the not too distant future.
That's ok, I can handle it, especially the 'future' part.
For now, I'm smiling like this little guy.
Until the next time...
Until the next time...

Extraction ! Yikes
What a scary word to hear while sitting in the dentist's chair. You brave to sit through it too. I am afraid I would have been mummmmmmbling and trying to find out right then what was being talked about. I ahte going to the dentist. I consider them a necessary evil. But the important part is congrats on having a good check up overall and just a silly wisdom tooth to think about in the future....

Dentists! Extractions!
Ooh, Nic, I love/hate hearing dentists stories! With the word extraction ringing in my ears I may well have hyperventilated. My last clean was painful too... but that may have had something to do with the fact I'd left it 10 years between cleans. Am resolved to stick to 6 monthly check-ups now.
Well done you for providing kidlet with such a great example!

Don't say the 'E' word
Bonsai and Michelle, I swear I froze when that dentist said 'extraction'.
Shuddering just thinking about it...

"Extraction" is much better
"Extraction" is much better than "root canal", which is what I'm avoiding until the pain gets to bad!

Yikes!
That definitely puts things in perspective, Fake Frenchie.
Extraction the lesser of two evils in comparison to root canal. Double shudder...
