I read a review of Private Arrangements at Dear Author and it sounded like something I would enjoy. It was. Almost.
I love regencies but this was set slightly later and I enjoyed the time period very much. The rules were looser and the people a bit more modern in their behaviors. The dialogue was wonderful and the herione, while flawed, was a very good character. The secondary characters were delightful and I almost wished for a whole book about them although their issues were resolved too easily for my taste.
I had planned to give this book to my mom and my mother-in-law for Mother's Day but I think I won't. I felt the romance was too focused on sex and the sexual attraction of the main characters. I like my hero and heroine to date a little bit and these two mainly argued, ate meals, and had sex.
I enjoyed the book very much. The writing was smart and skillful. I just wish the romance had some more breadth. In a way the book was too good for itself--I wanted to read more well-written scenes outside the bedroom because Ms. Thomas had done such a good job with the ones I got.

Don't you hate it when this
Don't you hate it when this happens?

Trying again
I saw this author has another book coming out soon. I'm definitely going to give her another try because I really did like the writing. It was smart and surprising.
I have hopes the next one will suit me better!
