This is the first book about the McIntiyre family that married into the Cavanaugh family. Zach is working undercover and is shot and passes out on the doorstep of Kasey Madigan. She brings him into her home and takes the bullet out and sews him up. Zach is attracted and follows up in seeing her again. Kasey is on the run from a mob boss that she saw execute someone. Her fiance was killed by a bad cop and so when she finds out that Zach is a cop she is scared. Zach finds out who she is and vows to protect her and not let her run away again.
You get to meet the three illegitimate children of Mike Cavenaugh in this book. I am sure there are 6 more books in this series as they and the other McIntiyre family are all cops.

This book is actually #12 in the "Cavanaugh Justice" series from what I can tell from her website. Starting in 2004 she's had 2 Silhouette Special Edition, 8 Intimate Moments and 2 (including this one) Romantic Suspense books in this series. It's hard to keep track when they span multiple lines. I've got "The Doctors Pulaski" on the TBR shelves right now. I love this author and may at some point go look for all the Cavanaugh books.
