Pushing 30 by Whitney Gaskell

Ellie Winters is the consumate good girl. She avoids conflict like the plague and almost always does what's expected of her. That is, until she finds herself nearing her 30th birthday. It's then that she becomes discontent with her life and status of good girl. When fate steps in with the possibility of something new, in the form of older man Ted Langston (20-something years her senior but a totally yummy hottie) Ellie wants to grab it (and him!) with both hands. There's only one problem. He's afraid he's too old for her. What's a good girl to do?

I actually read this book for the first time a few years back...in 2004, I think. It was a vacation read that I actually got to read at the beach. (at Bay St. Louis pre-Katrina) I loved it when I first read it but I think I love it even more after having re-read it. I don't know if it's because I'm closer to 30 myself now or what exactly. (Can you believe I'll be 29 in 2.5 weeks?!) As a single woman pushing 30 (and good girl to boot!) I found myself identifying a lot with Ellie. If only there were a Ted Langston out there waiting for me!

More than the May-December romance, this book also explores the highs and lows of friendship, family and finding who you are.

It does have a great romance in it, but if you don't like first person stories or chick lit styles, you may not like it. I, however, loved it. I'm thinking it's time for me to explore some more of Ms. Gaskell's novels. Smile
