Quilts their story and how to make them

Quilts There story and how to make them ia an 1915 account  re written from English version, of how quilts were made by all the women as far back in history as they can trace them to seventh generation of Cain.

Many were made for chest covers under heavy armor or petticoats to keep people warm. The very rich, queens, often did intricate needle work sometimes with silver and gold thread. These often were destroyed in later years by greedy people selling the gold and silver thread, so few examples exist.

Very intricate close as 1/8 inch apart stitching was some times done.

Pioneer and poor used flax and wool and scraps of fabric left from constructing clothing and good pieces like back of garment from worn out garments.

They were often used to cover drafty walls.

Patchwork in Antiquity, middle Ages and Old England, and America are covered. Quilt Names and Collections and Exhibitions are included.

A very tiny 5" by 7" book with black and white illustrations of quilts and designs is interesting especially as I quilt.
