Rating Books under Review, Kathleen Doney

Effective immediately, my ratings will be based on the following:

Excellent: 5 stars (one to re-read; definitely a keeper)
Very Good: 4 stars (excellent one time read)
Pretty Good: 3 stars (i enjoyed this story, but was not blown away by it)
Okay: 2 stars (a so-so read for me)
Poor: 1 star (not worth the bother!)

I've been dissatisfied with the rating system I've been using. Or let's say, I like the rating, but not the qualifier for using it. I blogged about this way back near the beginning when I quit using stars. (Just call me wishy-washy.)

While surfing the site, I found Kathleen Doney's rating list. It is a compromise between the old stars I was using and my current rating list.

For example, when I look at her rating for 'Pretty Good', it says, I enjoyed this story, but was not blown away by it. Whereas the ratings I've been using says: Pretty Good - I'd loan this book out, but would be upset if it wasn't returned (3 stars). But that isn't true because I wouldn't care if it wasn't returned. I mean it was a nice read, but it wasn't a keeper. But it doesn't deserve only 2 stars which is what I'd have to drop it to in my old system: Good: I'd loan this book out and not worry if it comes back (2 stars).

I've tracked back over my book reviews, and this rating list is exactly what I wanted to rate each book so I don't have to change any ratings on previous book reviews.
