Reader Sorbet

I write romance. I love to read romance. But sometimes I need a break--a little reading "sorbet", if you will. So I decided to read a thriller this time around: Heartsick by Chelsea Cain.

Honestly, I don't know how I feel about this book. Maybe because I'm not used to this genre? But I will say it's keeping me up late at night reading--which is a good thing for an author. Bad thing for me. (I need 8 hours of sleep to function.)

I think reading a different genre is good for me now. I've been stuck in a comfort zone and I forget sometimes what else is out there in the book market. I'm hoping it'll make me a better writer--even a better reader of romance--and I'll gain a new appreciation for it.

Do you ever need to take a "break" from reading romance?
