So did you make any resolutions for 2008? I try not to make resolutions, but I do try and make reaffirmations - what is the difference, nothing, but resolutions are always broken, so it is my hope that reaffirmations won't be. I have four for this year:
Exercise: After my son was born about three years ago, I have not really gotten back on the exercise train. I got on it enough to lose the baby weight, but I have been slacking and thus gaining bits and pieces. I had hoped to work out three times a week, I haven't quite been that good, but have at least done twice a week and sometimes three times, so I am just sticking with it, twice is better than none.
Family Dinners: We had gotten into the bad habit of eating in front of the TV, so my new resolution is to try and do more family dinners, we are doing okay on this one, but it will be a constant challenge.
Organization: I do this one every year, try and organize, I figure any organization I do is better than none. I have done some in the kids play room and in their clothes, now when they finish my family room carpet today, I am hoping to do some there as well.
I think I had a fourth one, but have forgotten it and the carpet guys are here now, so I better run.

Those are good. I'm with
Those are good. I'm with you in that I don't do resolutions. I don't like making promises. *g* For me, 2008 is all about balance. Not trying to do too much of any one thing to the point where everything else suffers.
We'll see how that works!

I also don't make resolutions but I give myself a list of things that I want to do better at. I guess that can be the same, in a way, but for some reason the "resolution" part makes me nervous. Like it is a job.
I think that the dinner one is a great idea. It is really nice when familys eat together without the t.v.
I have gained so much weight this last year that it is not healthy. I am trying to eat better and do more physical things. I will be glad when it starts staying lighter outside so that I can start my walking after work again.
Margie :)
There is just something
There is just something about the term resolution that calls for breaking it.
Glad to know that I am not alone in that.
Lori - Balance sounds great, they say everything in moderation.
Margie - The exercise thing is so much harder in the winter. Luckily, the kids are getting better about hanging out in the basement, where we have some equipment, so it is a bit easier this year.

Attitude
Hi Cady,
Yes, it is hard in the winter. I am also a night owl so staying up late does not help. Lack of sleep is not good on the waist line.
Hi Aurelene,
I like your attitude. You are so right. If you really want something, don't just say so . . . do it.
Margie:)
None here
I don't do resolutions. Although it is nice to strive towards things, resolutions never got me anywhere.

Oh yeah, I remember number
Oh yeah, I remember number 4 - Eat Healthier. My new boss likes to go out for lunch - at least once a week, and it is showing on my waistline. So I need to try and eat healthier when I go out, but also look to add more fruits and veggies to my and my kids' diets.
Margie - I know winter bites for exercise, but I need to keep up. Mike came home early last night so I could work out, so I have two in this week already, would love to get one more in.
Merri - I use to never do resolutions, then I realized if nothing else the new year does give me a bit of impetus to get moving on things, so whether I call them resolutions or whatever, it is worth giving them a boost in the arm.

Resolutions
Cady, maybe I tie the New Year resolution tradition too much to the whole Lent and pentential kind of thing. It used to drive me crazy having people ask me "What are you giving up for Lent?" I did hear someone talk once about adding something not taking away as a Lenten discipline and that struck me. Eating healthy and many resolutions I hear certain;y seem like adding something. At least if one is a good cook, healthy eating sounds like a treat. Processed food with all the salt doesn't feel as enriching as healthy meals and if one has the time, making real meals can be a pleasant experience..slowing down to smell the roses kind of thing. I seem to eat less when I eat meals that are satisfying.
If I were to think in terms of enrichment, I would like to strive towards turning off the computer earlier and having a lot more domestic home time with my dh to do things like cook together, have more reading time together. Sometimes it feels like we work all the time. I wouldn't call it a resolution exactly.

That adding something for
That adding something for Lent is the new thing they are really pushing. When I was a kid, it was always just the give up - although my Mom tells me that was more just kids (but she could be making that up.
), now it is try and add. Last year for Lent, we tried to make sure we said prayer before dinner, I am not sure what we are going to do this year. I still give something up as it is engrained in me.

One year I gave up salt for Lent
and it was very useful in helping me realise just how much I added to food
I don't think I could possibly give up books for Lent
but then again nobody would want me to (especially not DH - he has to live with me
)

I don't think I add that
I don't think I add that much salt. As for books, why give them up, they aren't bad for you - unless you were going to use that time to do good works
I can't believe that Ash Wednesday is next week, such an early Easter this year.
