I found this book in my search for more Patricia Wilson books. I didn't realise that the book was from the early 90s. It is different to the books that are written nowadays as there was no information regarding the feelings and thoughts of the male lead of the story throughout the book. Now we have stories that have both male and female perspectives in them which makes the story a lot more interesting and exciting to read. The male lead's feelings are revealed right at the end which I found a bit disappointing in regard to the whole story. Would have been nice to read about his thought processes earlier in the story.
'A stupid incompetent pest' that's what Blake Anderson referred to when speaking about Nicola Rogers. Blake Anderson was a highly successful film director; accustomed to giving orders adn receiving instant obedience. It was amazingly kind of him to take the trouble to look after Nicola when a tragedy deprived her of her father and her home adn she had no one to turn to. But that didn't give Blake the right to trample all over her and it was about time he learnt that, however attractive he was, not every woman danced at his bidding.
Nicola discovered she had an aunt she had never met and Blake comes to the hospital after her tragedy to take her back to the States to live with her. He is a very arrogant, cruel and stubborn man who rides roughshod all over Nicola when she refuses to leave the country with him. She is happy when she meets her aunt but is still a bit afraid of Blake's attitude towards her. A glimpse is given towards Blake's feelings towards Nicola when he tells her that some things are more important than money. She thinks he is talking about his stepmother who is her aunt but by his behaviour following her statement, it appears that he wasn't talking about her aunt at all.
Nicola is a very naive young girl who doesn't understand things that are happening around her and she is slightly clumsy. This is due to her habit of not paying attention to where she is walking. Blake always saves her from near disasters. She starts to develop feelings for him which she doesn't understand. She is too soft at times which is very friustrating for readers but it develops slowly as Nicola recovers from her experience and begins to develop some spunk in her interactions with Blake which is wonderful at times. I enjoyed reading this story, but would have liked it if Blake was more friendly towards her which would have formed an interesting angle to the story. It is a good read although it is a book that was released many years ago. Good story!!!
