Rhianna Samuels ~ Shaking Off the Dust

  This is one excellent first story for Rhianna Samuels who works as an emergency room nurse.  Part Paranormal Romance and part Suspense Thriller, and all wonderful escapism, this story (in eBook format) kept me absolutely glued to the computer reading it… all 300+ pages in a few hours.  I just didn’t want to walk away from it ~ my dh decried the fact that he had to make dinner.

  Poor guy... but I did do the dishes after I was done!

 BOOK READ:

Rhianna Samuels; Shaking Off the Dust; Samhain Publishing, Ltd.; January 2008 [301 pgs]

 SYNOPSIS:

    Dr. Tom Mecurio is dead… dead, but not gone.  He was a talented neurosurgeon and was killed as a result of a terrorist bomb on his flight that exploded on take-off.  But there’s something that’s holding him back, maybe something he knows about the terrorists.  The only thing is, he doesn’t know what to do about it.

    Hannah Campbell, once a patient of Dr. Mecurio, is an Emergency Department nurse who, because of her connection to Tom, is asked to participate at his memorial service.  Unfortunately Hannah gets a face full of the departed one’s ashes just as she’s struck by lightning ~ and upon briefly recovering consciousness she’s horrified to see Tom standing over her… but he’s dead!  She shoulda stayed at home! :grin:

    Takeshi Shimodo is, was, Tom Mecurio’s best friend and, as a neurologist and being at hand, he is at Hannah’s side.  He’s also going to become a much bigger part of her life because Tom’s insisting that she go to Takeshi, convince him that Tom is still around and together they can figure out what to do.

   Once Hannah and Takeshi get together, there’s a lot more between them than their connection with Tom ~ more than just a few sparks are flyin’.

MY NOTES:

   Oh wow… this was one amazing and absolutely fascinating story:  Rhianna Samuels is on my autobuy list for sure!  And after she told me a bit about the book she’s working on now, which is a sequel to Shaking Off the Dust, I’m going to be very impatiently waiting for its release.

    While this story is a romance centered on Hannah and Takeshi, Tom is definitely a major character.  The change in the relationship between Hannah who, along with many of the other ED nurses, considered Dr. Mecurio one arrogant SOB and said arrogant neurosurgeon is a gradual, yet steady progression that says a lot to the old adage:  Appearances aren’t everything (or something like that).  Throw gorgeous Takeshi, best friend to one and wanna-be-lover to the other, into the mix and there are more than a few moments of hilarity.  But there is a definite serious undertone to the relationships as well ~ very beautifully and excellently portrayed!

 RATING:

Excellent ~ 4 stars:  {definitely a keeper and a re-read; the author is an autobuy!}

Heat Wave:  {explicit sex; graphic language}
