Risky Business by Merline Lovelace

Back cover:  From career woman...To Camp Fire Girl?

As regional chief of employment and training, Sue Ellen Carson gets to sit in a comfortable, air-conditioned office and make funding decisions-she just doesn't do fieldwork.  But this time her boss insists that she evaluate a program firsthand-three weeks of survival training with at-risk teens in the Florida wilderness.  Entering the rough-and-tumble world of camp founder USAF Chief Master Sargeant Joe Goodwin isn't her idea of fun-especially once she gets the hang of the rules:

1.  Never wear perfume.  Bugs-stinging, biting bugs-love designer fragrance.

2.  Never pretend to be up on the latest street lingo.  Acting too cool for school around troubled teens can have disastrous consequences.

3.  Never, ever get too close to Sargeant Goodwin.  Because resisting this man's animal magnetism is such risky business, even a seasoned exec like Sue Ellen can't pull it off...

I read one book from the Next line last year, and it happened to be Merline Lovelace's Ex Marks The Spot.  Sue Ellen was Col. Andi Armstrong;s bf, a sexy, savy older woman who had a 12 year younger Air Force lover.  I was really happy to see Sue Ellen get her own story, with the Master Sargeant she clashed with over funding for his STEP program for at-risk teens.  Besides the sizzling plot with Joe Goodwin, we also see the story of Sue Ellen and Rose, the teen she's to mentor in the STEP program.  Sue Ellen shows us she's not only a with-it older woman, but sensitive to Rose's troubles.

And what about the studly Major Bill "Crash" Steadman?  He took the break-up between Sue Ellen and him pretty well, considering it was done over the phone!  Please, Merline, tell us we'll be reading "Crash's" story sometime soon!

I love stories about military men.  The three week wilderness course was interesting.  I'm with Merline - I'm not the outdoorsy type, so reading about it was good enough for me!

Excellence rating: ****1/2 - Great

Steaminess: Yummy - when they finally got the chance!

Lynn, I would love to get

Lynn, I would love to get Crash's story as well.  I am fearful that we might not, now that NEXT is gone.

Cady

Crash's story

Cady, because Crash was 12 years younger than Sue Ellen I would imagine he could have his story in Blaze, or Romantic Suspense, or even Intrigue.  Hopefully, we'll see it somewhere.
