Of course, your roving reporter Hosty Wayne will be there to give you daily reports on the action...and there will be action of all kinds..
Several of the Kimani authors will be there, so expect to get lots of news (and gossip)....

Day One - Wednesday (Registration Day)
Today was another fun filled day for me. Of course, I missed registration which took place between 4 and 6p.m.
During the morning, with nothing to do, I hooked up with four authors, Monique Lemont, Denise Jeffries, Andrea Jackson and another author whose name I can't remember at the moment...
We spend the day roaming the streets of downtown Chicago with the interntion of getting back to the hotel for registration. Of course, we didn;t get back until around 7:00P.M. (lol) I'll be at the desk early on Thursday morning.
Thursday looks to be a great day. I have a readers's session with two other authors, Andrea Jackson and Leslie Thompson. I'm looking forward to the session.
I'll try to write my report tonight, but there're a welcome reception so I can't make any promises.

"Of course, we didn;t get back until around 7:00a.m. I'll be at the desk early on Thursday morning,"
Wayne you have to clarify this. I'll be in Chicago tomorrow morning, and I expect you to tell me how to have fun till 7 am in the windy city. Laughs. Typing errors have gotten people executed. See you tomorrow, Gwynne
Day Two - Romance Slam Jam - Chicago
Today was a fine day. Since Slam Jam doesn't officially begin until Thursday (registration opens this evening) and when downstair and met a few authors who dragged me along with them to downtown Chicago.
Had a great time strolling the streets of the city with Monique Lamont, Cheryl Bonner, Andrea Jackson and Denise Jeffries.
We had some much fun trying to find Gino's Pizza and a eventful journey back to the hotel we didn't get back in time for registration.
Of course, my Romance in Color reviewers (Keren, La-Tessa, Marguerite and Dianthia were there waiting for me with the promised JACKET. Did I tell you that Chicago is coooooooooooold....
That night we went out to dinner, had a great time talk about nothing in particular.
We to bed tired and exhausted.

Day Three - Romance Slam Jam - Chicago
Another Great day. The workshops finally began and I went to a few and did my reader session with Andrea Jackson and Leslie Thompson. We had a small but appreciative audience, so all was fine.
Buy the end of the day, I'd seen most of my writer friends.
Later the night, I went to dinner at Longhorn Steak House.
Another crazy time....
*But before going to dinner, those wonderful reviewers from Romance in Color presented me with a birthday cake with the cover of my August 2008 Kimani Romance.
Happy Birthday Wayne!
ROFL ... yes, I'm sure Chicago is very cold after the lovely temps you are used too!
Sounds like you're having a great time :D

Happy Birthday Wayne!
I was telling the kids a couple of days ago that it was about time for your birthday!
I wish I had thought about you needing a jacket! I'm sure one of dh's cousins or uncles could have loaned you one for the conference (dh is one of 18 first cousins [not to mention their spouses] and 7 uncles, all but 4 or so in Chicagoland). Next time you're someplace cool where I have family, I'll think of it . . . but you'll have the one you got this week! :) Ah, well.
Hope the rest of the conference goes well!

Day Four - Romance Slam Jam - Chicago
Today was another great day. Did several workshops and then it was time for the Old School Jam.
However, before that I had a meeting with several author along with Sherry Lewis, president of RWA, Allison , Michelle Monkou (soon to be president), Celeste Norfleet and Farrah Rochon. We chatted about RWA etc and everything under the sun. My respect for Sherry Lewis upped several notches. This was the first time any RWA president attened our conference and knowing that she asked about attending means so much to me as a writer and RWA member.
And then it was Old School Jam. Need I say that I do some crazy stuff. These things happen when one is one of the few males in a group of over 200 women.
I attended another party held for the other persons with birthdays and then headed off to sleep.

Great Job
Romance Slam Jam was another roaring success. Thanks for the updates Wayne, although I didn't pack my laptop with me. Unfortunately my first two days were spent nursing a sinus infection. But I was up and around by the Old School Jams LOL. It was great seeing you and many other author friends. Sherry had a mission of inclusion and celebrating RWA's diversity. She has done that with grace and respect. Allison, as executive director of RWA, does an outstanding job of looking out for our interests. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to being a crucial part of RWA's history.
Congrats to all the Emma winners!
