I was a sociology major in college and had I not met my husband and decided to get married and start a family, I would have pursued advanced degrees and grants in researching countercultures. I am absolutely obsessed with what is going on in Texas right now and am reading everything on the topic of polygamy that I can get my hands on. And I have some very strong opinions about the judge's ruling. (I would like to see the mothers offered an option if they leave the compound and the community).
The Secret Story of Polygamy is a wonderful book that gives a very historical account of the basis of the Morman religion, LDS and FLDS. This is not a personal account, but a very informative study of the religion and the various sects that have broken away due to powerful belief systems. The author does a wonderful job of being unbiased.
