Seventh Key by Evelyn Vaughn (Silhouette Bombshell, 2007)
Copied Blurb:
Married to one of the richest men alive, she was a kidnapping target. But Maggi Sanger-Stuart never took the threat seriously--until she and her baby were abducted. It wasn't her husband's fortune they demanded. No, the notorious Adriano family wanted Maggi's expertise on ancient artifacts--and they'd hold her daughter until Maggi obeyed their orders. But if Maggi does bring them the mysterious Black Madonna mosaic, the Adrianos will use its legendary power to destroy Europe. Millions *will* die. Now, with the help of her powerful husband, Maggi has just hours to find the key to the mosaic's power before all she loves is lost forever.
My Review:
This is the final installment in the multi author, seven book series called The Madonna Key. And my first 5-Star review of the year. Awesome series!!! I originally started reading the books when I saw Sadhbh reviewing them back in the 2006 book challenge. They also happened to be my first Bombshells read. Not a month later, I found out that they were discontinuing the line. I have a feeling this series will be hard to find, but if you are interested, they are avaiable as ebooks in the ebook Boutique, and various other ebook distributers.
Okay, back to the book itself. I found it to be the very fast paced, and emotional. Probably because I have such an attachment to all the characters in this final book. Evelyn brought back everyone from the prvious six books, and everyone played important parts. I was so impressed with how well linked all seven books were, and if there was a glitch through the series, it wasn't caught by me. During the last chapter, I actually cried....it was very touching, very sweet. I think I related most to the h of this final book. I could feel her pain, and I could understand her struggles, and I could relate to her fears. Wonderful, wonderful, conclusion to one of my favorite series ever!
If anyone is curious, here is a list of all seven books, and theri respective authors.
- Lost Calling by Evelyn Vaughn
- Haunted Echoes by Cindy Dees
- Dark Revelations by Lorna Tedder
- Shadow Lines by Carol Stephenson
- Hidden Sanctuary by Sharon McClellan
- Veiled Legacy by Jenna Mills
- Seventh Key by Evelyn Vaughn
Awesome series!!! I Highly recommend it!!!!

One of the best of this series
Never knew what was once warm is now a cold place.
One terrific series!
I loved this series! And yes, the authors did a masterful job of blending all the stories. The Seventh Key was my favorite, a great ending to a great series!

Hi Tammy, Congrats on being finished all the books to this series. I still have the two left to read. Hopefully i'm not still saying that next year. lol

For some reason...
I still haven't read this one! It's the last one I have left in the series and I know it's going to be good but I just haven't read it. Maybe I don't want it to end?

I loved this series, it's another set I'm not lending
not least because of the autographs and the dedications in some of the books
In fact it just might make my rereading list very soon
Glad you enjoyed it and that I inspired you to pick up the series, it's usually your name I see on the "inspiration list"

Hey Everyone!!
Hey Sarah!
No kidding!! I was really wondering how Evelyn would pull it off in the end, and I can't think of a better way to do it than how she did. It was pretty darn close to perfect.
Hey Lynn!
The Seventh Key was my favorite as well. I really loved seeing all the characters come back and interact together. Superb storytelling!
Hey Jeannie!
Have you read any of them?? Hopefully, you can find all the books you need, as they are increasingly difficult to find, good luck!!
Hey Kelley!
This one was definitely my favorite, too. Found some surprises in this one. I would actually do a spoiler here, but we don't have colors yet. That's great you have all 7 autographed!!
Hey Kathy D!
Thank you! I can't believe I did it! I am not all that faithful at finishing series, so this was definitely an accomplishment, but well worth it! If I still see you haven't read these come December, perhaps I shall give you a gentle reminder, so you won't have to say you haven't read them come 2009?? Lol!!
Hey Debi!
I know how you feel, but once you start this one, you won't be able to put it down. And then, it really is all over. I do have some other backlist Bombshells by Evelyn Vaughn that has the same character as this book. I need to pull them out, as I really enjoyed Evelyn Vaughn's writing.
Hey Merri!
Thank you! And you are welcome for the list. I discovered this line a month before it was discontinued as well. I do remember knowing about it, but for some reason it didn't hold appeal for me. But once I actually picked up a Bombshell to try, I was really impressed with how much I liked it!!
Hey Sadhbh!
Lol, I did see your name here and there and FF's as well, in the dedications. If you do reread the series, you can count them towards his year, right? I believe it has been at least a year at this point, unless you reread them during 2007, and I don't remember. It was definitely you that inspired me. You sure praised these books! And for that Sadhbh, thank you!!!!

Hey Tammy, As you probably
Hey Tammy, As you probably already know, i'm not real faithfull at finishing series either. So i figure i did really good at already having read 5 of them so far...but, being this series is so well done, and the authors did such an amazing job of making them all feel so well connected...i know i will finish them all....it's the so many books, so hard to remember all the ones i want to fit in the soonest, or i would've had them all read already.
I have no problems at all with reminders...that may just be the ticket for me to get them all read and put to bed.
I've done so much moving around of books i want to read, that i'm not exactly sure where book#6 ended up at the moment. lol
I have to go down and cut Chad's hair pretty quick, for a job interview, so i'll have to look later, if i remember that is.

Series
Thanks for mentioning the whole series, we have all the Bombshells (thanks to some eBay searches) but now where to start ?! It will be fun to be able to read the Madonna Key books in sequence.
AKA Glenn
Family Challenge Team: The Spine Breakers with my lovely wife Merri AKA Paisley
Glenn, you should read
AKA Goddess and Her Kind of Trouble before The Madonna Key b/c the h in AKAG and HKOT is also key to and a part of MK. The 3rd "Grail Keeper" book, Something Wicked, is more stand alone but you might as well read them all in the order they came out . . . which means 3 books to read before MK.
You'd better get cracking LOL!

Madonna Key
About 2 weeks back I laid my hands on The Seventh Key, so I now have the whole series. Now I have to find time to start reading it. I want to have time to savour it. There is nothing as good as deferred pleasure
.
I loved Bombshell. AKA Goddess was absolutely fabulous. But there were so many good books. Another of my absolute favs was Erica Orloff's Urban Legend, Ruth Wind's Countdown and I loved, loved, The Spy Wore Red--but if you haven't read that one, DON"T read the back cover blurb!

TSK was extra special to me
TSK was extra special to me too (and our whole lunch gang down here) because Von dedicated it to all of us and listed us by name. There was a typo and my name was mispelled (nothing unusual, it happens al the time), but I knew it was me she was referring to.
I don't think any of us knew Von was planning that so we all got a little mushy to see that we were all listed there.

Hey Everyone!!
Hey Kathy D!
I do know that, but I'm right along with you there. I have been realizing just how lucky I am with all these books around me. I logged about a hundred books into BookCat over the past few days. Actually, I have been trying to tidy my office, as we have company coming next week, so it makes it more fun to log books while "cleaning."
Did you ever find Book #6, Veiled Legacy?
How did Chad's interview go? And how is his girlfriend doing?
Hey Glenn!
Wow! You have ALL the Bombshells?? I am impressed! I have left messages on the backlist ebook thread here to publish more backlist Bombshells, so hopefully they do. Looking forward to seeing what you and Merri think of the Madonna Key series!
Hey Penn!
I have all three of those books, but haven't read them yet. I am eager read them, to see Maggi and Lex's beginnings.
Hey Tessa!
That's great you have the whole series now, Tessa! Good luck finding some time to read them. I know you had a busy year last year!
Thanks for the warning on not reading the back blurb for The Spy Wore Red. But can you tell who it is by?? I would like to try and hunt it down.
Hey Kelley!
Ah, that is so nice!! I just went and re-read the dedication, and I did see your name....along with many others that I recognize. I would get mushy, too!
Hey Sadhbh!
Lol! That they did!

I think The Spy Wore Red was by Wendy Rosnau
but Penni can confirm that - she's got the list, in fact I seem to
remember this was Bombshell #32, but she'll be able to set me right if
I'm wrong - one of those weird facts that floated to the top of my
memory without me knowing from whence it came

Sadhbh got SPY WORE RED
info right -- Feb 05, #32, The Spy Wore Red by Wendy Rosnau. NOW, that said, there are books tied to it: at least one other SBS (The Spy With the Silver Lining, SBS#89, May 06) and then at least one SIM and a couple of SRSes.
I actually didn't like The Spy Wore Red much so the follow-ups that I had languished in my tbr til someone was looking for them (and they were too old to buy new), so I read them and gave them to whoever from here at eHQ. And I liked them well enough to wonder if it had been my mood when I read "Spy". I imagine Wendy's WEB site has the info on which books go together . . .

Glad you got to finish the series. This was definitely an amazing series. I'm very saddened, as are we all, the Bombshell is no more.
Hey!
Hey Sadhbh!
Thank you for the info! I looked at the ebook boutique, and it looks like they have one Bombshell by Wendy Rosnau. But not The Spy Wore Red, bummer.
Hey Penn!
Thank you for the info, I'll have to jump by Wendy's website. I completely understand about how being in a certain mood can affect your view of a book.
Hey Tracey!
I am glad I was able to read the entire series. Its definitely one of my favorites ever! Makes me wonder what Evelyn Vaughn is writing these days. Her website doesn't seem to be showing anything new.

Glenn - there was an online story by Jenna Mills called "False Idols" that is a lead-in to Lost Calling.
There is also a book by Wendy Rosnau called "A Thousand Kisses Deep" that is really the first book in the Spy Games series. I found this book at the library. It is not part of the eHarl. line if I remember correctly. As Penn said her web site should have all the books listed.
