From the back cover: "All a girls needs is a .38, bloodred lipstick and a hot pair of heels".
Ellie teaches a self-defense class and also teaches the art of makeup at a modeling school full of wannabee models/celebrities. Her cousin Destiny has been living with her for several months which she is not thrilled about. Destiny is one of those women that thinks she is destined to be famous!
At the end of a less than thrilling day Ellie has a confrontation with her boss, thanks to Destiny, that leads to the end of her employment there. The nerve of the creep to proposition her so she can keep her job. After such a horrible day Ellie crawls into bed craving sleep but can't seem to find that blissful escape. When she sees the shadow of a man crawling through the bedroom window she reaches for the gun in her nightstand to find that it is missing. Not about to just let this stranger have whatever he wants, Ellie grabs the lamp on the nightstand so she can bash him in the head but he is prepared and counters every move she makes.
Christian has resorted to climbing into Ellie's apartment when all his observation doesn't give him any of the information he is looking for. After he subdues Ellie and assures her he means no bodily harm they concoct a story to tell Destiny. Ellie only agrees to work with Christian after she finds out he is a member of a group called the Enforcers, a group she would like to join. Christian is trying to find Ellie's father Harlan, a member of the Western Alliance. The FBI has put out a watch order on the group as they are planning some kind of attack on California.
