I picked this book out of our bookcase with some of the Romantic Suspense line, looking for the ones that take place in the West. The Navajo theme intrigued me.
I've been a Tony Hillerman fan for decades and have read all of his books. I was definitely not disappointed by this Linda Conrad book! It has enough scarey tales built on Navajo legends that this reader may never be able to camp in a tent in the Four Corners area ever again!
The author does a great job of imparting the setting and mood of the area. The story goes from a mysterious start to being down-right creepy, with a happy ending that could also lead to more mysteries. I'm going to find more of the Night Guardian series and read them soon :-)

Hi Glenn,
I'm going trailering in Navajo Nations in May. I'm taking Tony Hillerman (audio) and this book with me (eBook). I think I have another (PB) of the series in my TBR pile, too. I'll have to go through as see what else I have along those lines.
Have you read Sand Creek by D.W. Linden? I think you'd like it. One of my favorites from last year's challenge. From the World Wide Mystery line. Takes place in Colorado.
To see my trailer check out my blog entry for today.
I agree with you ChrissieSue
I agree with you ChrissieSue about Sand Creek. I had to smile when I saw this and can't wait for him to see your comment. GLenn and I watched a movie based on a Tony Hillerman book that I liked very much.

Sand Creek
Sounds like I need to look for that one. Love Linda Conrad's books and Hillerman's books.

I enjoyed this
I enjoyed this whole series. The Indian lore was very interesting.

I'm taking the series to the AZ…
I found I had two of the series in my PB TBR pile. I got the other four as eBooks. I doubt I can read all the books I've chosen to take on my trip but it will be nice to have a choice.
We're going to have a four-wheel, five-hour tour of Canyon de Chelly (pronounced Shay) by members of the Navajo Nation.
***Five-hour tour? Isn't that how Gilligan got into trouble?***
And we'll have a campfire with Navajo presenters. Story teller, code talker, pray sayer, flute player. If I find an open WiFi I'll be able to blog about it, because I'm taking my lap top with me!
Check my last two blogs for pictures of my restored 1955 travel trailer. After this trip I should have more time to participate here. I've really missed checking out what everyone is up to. Tho that usually leads to the purchase of more books than I can keep up with.
Cool Caravan !
ChrissieSue, that is the neatest travel trailer (caravan if you're in Europe) I've seen! You'll be drawing a crowd everywhere you stop, I'm sure.. The couple of times that I've ridden my 1974 Ducati motorcycle to Mesa Verde and NM it was fun to watch the crowds ignore the new Hondas and BMWs and stop around my restored Duck :-)
Have you ever been to Chaco Canyon, on a dirt road between Grants, NM and Farmington? The roads in are pretty rough but the ruins are absolutely fantastic and really worth it! The campground is in a wide wash at the edge of the Park, and in the evening as the sun set it was like being in a church, everyone stopped making noise washing dishes and quit talking and it was very spiritual.
The programs you've lined up sound like the best way to appreciate the culture of the area, the trip sounds like a blast!!

Hi Glenn,
No, I haven't been to Chaco Canyon. I've seen TV programs about it. I looks like a fantastic place.
I'm half through Shadow Force and it's very intriguing, the paranormal stuff that's going on. Really makes me want to know what's going to happen next. It's taking place right where I'll be visiting. The Navajo culture in the story will be good background for my trip.
