The Single Dad’s Patchwork Family by Claire Baxter, HR #4019
Regan Jantz has been working hard to bring the family fishing business back from disaster. The disaster of her ex husband trying to run a business he was ill suited to run. She is now an over-extended single mom, but with her mother’s help, she is just managing. Chase Mattner is a single dad living a quiet, isolated life. He is not sure he wants complications of any kind, let alone the love kind. Somehow they manage to meet and it is a romance, you know the rest.
But ah, it is how Baxter makes ‘the rest’ happen. This is a sweet well-paced read. Baxter imbues her characters with emotional depth. This helps to round out her characters and make them more real for the reader. It is easier to care about them and what is happening in their lives. There were times when I wanted to shake Regan, but that was because I cared about what was happening to her. Sometimes children can ‘take over’ sections of a story, but the three in this book don’t—they provide just enough ‘seasoning’ to spice up the story. Thumbs up.

Nice blog on this one, esp. it's how she does it. That makes all the difference. I was moved by this romance and am looking forward to reading the next. Liked your comments about kids...so true here. So when is her next release?
