A Soldier’s Family by Cheryl Wyatt (Love Inspired)

I read A Soldier's Family hoping to like it better than A Soldier's Promise, but sadly that was not the case. The thing is I can see why so many readers love the author's books. She is a competent writer and has some nice stories to tell, but they are just not to my taste. So what is my problem? Smile I'm not really sure; it might just be the author's writing voice (I like her online persona, so it is nothing personal!). I've had that happen with two other very popular authors. No matter what they write I can't read it, as I don't like their style, their pacing, and their choice of words. It could also be the combination of inspirational and military romance. I like both, but maybe not together? Or maybe I'm just too European and this book is too foreign? All I can say is that I tried and that I'm very sorry that I don't like the author's books. However, as so many others love her and have posted LOTS of wonderful reviews I'm sure my lonely voice won't matter anyway. I'm only blogging about the book, as it is part of the 100,000 Book Challenge, not because I want to hurt anyone.

Series: second book in the "Wings of Refuge"-series

Rating: Poor (I'm not saying the book is poorly written, it isn't, but it is to show that the book is not to my taste)

Thanks Cheryl! Kiss

Just curious...was it this

Just curious...was it this particular book? Or is it the Love Inspired line that you think you had trouble with? I have both of these books and 2 others in my TBR pile and am hesitating to read them. I've only read 2-3 LI books so far. I enjoyed the first one okay. (It was a suspense.) But the other one (that I remember off the top of my head) was just a regular LI and I didn't enjoy it so much. It felt a little on the preachy side to me.

RE: A SOLDIER'S FAMILY by Cheryl Wyatt

I really fancy Cheryl's work! To me, "A Soldier's Family," is like "A Soldier's Promise," continuum.  It's like a serial telly broadcast!  I will agree with berlin and say that this is more likely a uniquely "American-since-911-and-Iraq-Conflict" read, and in the "Evangelical/Pentecostal-Charismatic/Republican/Patriotic" style makes most sense than any other writing style.  Wonderful book, Cheryl, and gr8 review berlin! Shannon: It was this book.

Shannon: It was this book. I only very recently discovered the Love Inspired line. The first book I read in October 2007. I actually liked most of the books so far, but have come across some that were too preachy for my taste. The good ones touched my heart, made me cry and left me with a smile on my face, the "bad" ones made me cringe. I'm trying to read lots of different authors to get a feeling of what I like and what doesn't work for me. I have some favourites already, but hope for more. I think it all comes down to taste and personal experiences. I find it is the same with erotic romance titles. We all have different fantasies.

HockeyJock: Thank you for the kind words!

Sorry you didn't enjoy it

Sorry you didn't enjoy it more. I totally loved it and thought it was a very insightful book but then to each their own. There are so many authors that we each have our favorites. There are a few books that I don't care for that so many others do and that just makes us all unique.

That's why I love this
