109. A Soldier’s Promise (Wings of Refuge, 1) – Cheryl Wyatt, Steeple Hill Love Inspired Inspirational Romance Larger Print, January 2008, ISBN: 9780373813445, 299p.
Featuring: Joel Montgomery and Amber Stanton
Synopsis:
"My name's Bradley. I'm eight and have cancer. I want to meet a Special Forces soldier more than anything. Well, almost anything. Having a family would be nice."
U.S. Air Force pararescue jumper Joel Montgomery promised to make a sick child's wish come true. Well, not the family part—not with Joel's past. And so despite vowing never to set foot back in Refuge, Illinois, Joel parachuted onto the boy's school lawn to a huge smile. But another smile unexpectedly stole Joel's heart: that of Bradley's beautiful teacher, Amber Stanton, who was trying to adopt the boy. And trying to show Joel it was time for new vows.
Comments:
I picked this book up at the local UBS because I thought it sounded good... I didn't realize it's part of the "Wings of Refuge" I've seen discussed here until later. A very sweet story, and I found myself laughing several times throughout it. Especially the quaking duck scene (which is still making me smile 2 days later).
The great gift is the passion for reading. It is cheap [Hah! It most certainly is not!], it consoles, it distracts, it excites. It gives knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is moral illumination. ~ Elizabeth Hardwick

RE: A SOLDIER'S PROMISE by Cheryl Wyatt
This was the first Steeple Hill I ever read. I couldn't have picked a better one! Cheryl's use of character dialouge is next-to-none, and will actually cause one to LOL (actually Laugh Out Loud). Through it all, we find that the Lord knows what is best for His children; Even though to us it may seem that He's "taking His sweet ole time", He's got it all in control!
