Stoned

rocks.jpg

So, this weekend, my dh and I headed out to our cottage in the woods.  It was dry enough to drive the truck into the waayyy back where we loaded it with....stones.  Big ones.  Well, as big as two of us could handle on our own.  (There was a wonderful one that we managed to get up to the truck, and just couldn't load...I'm going back for that one.)

So, this is where I should probably admit...I have a thing for stones. I zone out for a lot of my dh's HGTV shows, but I perk up for is Rock Solid...swoon.  As soon as the rest of the house projects are done, I'm hoping for a farmer's knee wall on the crest of the small hill on our extra lot.  But for now, we built a border for our front planter this weekend.  It looks so nice.  And will look even nicer in a few weeks when we get the flowers and mulch in.

So, what did you do with your weekend?  I spent mine stoning!  (More pics to follow!)

Stone Wall

And here it is...our wall.  It's longer than I could show in one pic.  Once the grass is replanted, and the flowers and mulch are in, I think it's going to look fantastic!

Could you come to France?

Could you come to France?  I have a BIG pile of stone (old paving stones and sidewalk borders) that I want to put like you did.  It's only about 25 yards linear.  Interested?

Heading to Frenchie's!!

Frenchie,

Hey for a chance to come to France, I'm there.  I need a good pair of work gloves (though I could bring my own LOL), and a few bottles of wine (not to drink all at once, but I'm sure I'll need a lot of breaks! LOL)!!

I really love my stones!  I'm shooting for a couple new raised garden areas this year.  I'll confess, I don't like gardening (bugs, dirt and sun), but I like the results so I do it!

A good stoner

What a good stoner you are! I can't wait til Mr. Chelle is home for good so we can start building on our land. 51 acres of landscaping possibilities...even a little creek for a private little garden getaway. Maybe I can bribe you away from Hollyworld for a brief vacation...;)

Chelle's 51 acres?

Chelle, Well, I'm pretty sure I can't manage the whole 51 acres, but I could help.  We have 18 at our camp, and though most of it's wooded, I'm pretty handy mowing the couple acres that aren't! And now we know I'm a stoner!  LOL

I can't wait until Mr. Chelle's back, not only so you can get your gardens started. I just want him home for good!

stoned

Using stones as edging looks so great. my bil always helps my sister gather big stones. The more she expands the flower bed the less lawn he has to mowSmile

This weekend I didn't do much. Bagged and froze 70 ears of corn on the cob. Last week I spent 3 days at my sister's, getting dirt under my nails, on hands and knees getting sunburnt, working on her garden. Ended up filling 7-8 bags with yard waste

Christa

Christa,

Wow, you may not have done much this weekend, but only because you went to town last week!  You deserved the break!  And had to LOL...I think that's my dh's plan.  Help me turn the whole yard into something other than lawn he has to mow!  LOL

I need a good pair of work

I need a good pair of work gloves (though I could bring my own LOL), and a few bottles of wine

Gloves -- check

wine -- double check (You're coming to the right place, babe!)

And I'll raise you some canard confit and some stinky cheese, and if that doesn't do, some fancy pastry.

Stinky Cheese or pastry??

Oh, come on Frenchie, Pastry always beats out stinky cheese!  LOL

Hey, I've got my passport...it's just waiting for its first stamp!  And I took French in high school.  Enough stuck that I can read some of my books when they come out in French...alas, when it comes to speaking I can manage Avez vous un ami du la classe de France? (and I'm sure I spelled that wrong LOL) and I can say Omlette du fromage.  So, I can have French class friends and all the cheese omelets I want!  LOL

Let me know what plane

Let me know what plane you're on! LOL

We have just had our land plowed up to get rid of the stinging nettles that were taking over when we bought the house. Now, we have to plant new grass. We have raspberries, black and red currants, blackberry and rhubarb from the old couple who owned the house before us. Lilacs and forsythia. We planted 10 fruits trees, but alas and alack, my Macintosh apple tree didn't survive. Wouldn't you know.

rainy north (Tongue out Hi FF Innocent) I have a nice garden that DH would love to see a rock garden in, and the stones are available about a mile down the road (i'm sure the farmer would be delighted if we took them out of his field, he wouldn't have to replough them every
year Wink)

We've got the wine and the duck and the stinky cheese (and two monsters to jabber French at your lot and a swing set and trampoline for them to use their energy on Laughing)

Have we convinced you yet?

Oh, it sounds wonderful!!  I don't do rhubarb, but love the rest.  I'll mourn your macintoshes with you.  I love that variety!  And lilacs....they're my favorites!  I have two here and am anxiously waiting for them to bloom so I can bring some in!

Frenchie, when a strange woman shows up at your doorstep, suitcase and workgloves in hand and asks if you have a friend in French class, you'll know you're in trouble!  LOL

Wine glasses and Workgloves!

Wow, Frenchie, the invitation was so good that the boards posted my response...twice!

Sadhbh, I've never had duck, but I'm game.  Hey, with enough wine, I'll try anything except snails.  I know, I know, it's a bias, but I just can't seem to make a snail go into my mouth. I just don't think there's enough wine for that!  I'd love to come visit!  My youngest has four years of high school, then she'll be off to college.  I think I have my dh convinced of my NEED to travel to Europe.  You can be sure I'll let you know what plane I'm on!  And I'm thinking your darlings jabbering French at me could only improve my horrible slaughtering of the very beautiful language.

Holly--have workgloves and wine glass...willing to travel!

Holly, don't you listen to that southerner (My Dearest Gnat aka Sadhbh) saying bad things about the north. We have warm hearts. And it is not 95°F in the shade during the summer here!!!Wink

lilacs

Holly

Have you ever been to the lilac garden in Niagara Falls?

Lilacs and Diplomacy!

Frenchie,  LOL  (Crawling on my fence now...) I'm sure that both parts of France are beautiful.  You have rocks, wine...and of course, you both are there!  So, I'm sure I'll love both parts!  Oh, yeah, I'm quite the diplomat!

And Christa, I only live an hour and a half from Niagra Falls...is the garden on the US or Canadian side?  How on earth have I missed that???

lilac garden

on the Canadian side. on the Parkway right by the floral clock.  Then you can visit here I'm only 15 minutes from NF(Canadian side)

Oh, cool...Christa!

Christa,

Wow, you're close!  If you're ever coming by Erie, holler!  We're a very popular shopping destination because we don't tax clothes!

And I will definitely have to come to see the lilac gardens.  This year, I can't.  I have another book due soon, and another conference in two weeks.  But maybe next year?!!  I'm so jazzed learning they're there!  I'm a huge lilac fan!

Okay, so I'm not on the next plane to France, but I just found out they rereleased I Waxed My Legs for This? as part of a Red Dress Inc book this month in France.  Consider it the next best thing!  LOL

I am so jealous

Holly, we have rocks! Of course that is considered landscaping ground cover here. Grass is becoming a no no. We have to keep our water hungry plants to less than 20% of the overall lot area. And to see your grass made me drool. We miss the east part of the US where "green" really is green, but is you want rocks.....we got them

Bonsal

Rocks AND grass!

Bonsal,

Does it make me greedy if I want rocks AND grass??  LOL  You're welcome to come visit PA.  I'm biased and know it, but I think it's beautiful here!

But if I visit you, I'll bring a couple of the rocks back!  LOL

Please come to my house!

Holl - your yard looks great.  Please come waaaaaayyyy over to my house and help us.  We have the worst lawn in the neighborhood.  I don't want it to be all chemicals, either, because of my dog and cat.

 You're such a stoner!

Chemicals

Susan,

I'll confess, I was green before it was the "in" color!  I pull weeds with a dandelion puller.  It's great exercise, because you have to squat down to get to them.  This time of year, it's a real battle, but once you get most of the dandelions out by their roots, it's minimal upkeep the rest of the season.

Oh, yeah, I'm a stoner!  LOL

So glad you're back!
