Stop whining: you are blessed.

Caution: A long rant is coming!

I have been hearing a little about the Stop Whining book Dr. Laura has out though I haven't read it. Anything with 'stop whining' in the title has to have some value.

My biggest pet peeve is when people tell me how busy they are. I almost hate to ask women how they are because I am always told how busy they are and then hear the litany of their responsibilities. It is my choice to teach Sunday school, advise chess club, be the BoxTops lady for the PTO and be a den leader/awards chair for cub scouts. I even had a choice whether to work 2 hours a day as the lunch lady at school.

One of the moms after school yesterday was complaining that she HAD to get her nails done because her mother-in-law was coming for a visit. Ten minutes of whining later I asked was that the worst thing going on in her life? It was.

Life is stressful and EVERYONE is busy. Remember, there are always people going through more than you are. I am blessed to have the opportunity to volunteer as much as I want. I just need to remember not to complain because I am too busy.

Half my family has cancer but I am healthy. My nephew is dying and shows more courage than I could ever have. The only problem my kids have is that one stutters. My hubby has been gone 11 months but only has 1 month left in Honduras! I can choose to whine and feel sorry for myself OR I can count my blessings.

Guess I'll count my blessings- there is enough whining in the world.

Good for you. Actually, I

Good for you. Actually, I find that whining expressing my concern over things that are not going quite as I'd like them to is a stress reliever. Fortunately, I can whine express myself to my DH, and it goes in one ear and out the other.Wink

I looked up the book on amazon

She'd agree with you that a certain amount of whining is a stress reliever, but thinks that belabouring a particular point for more than four days max is whining too much.

Basically it's yet another book about being positive, but personally I need the $25 more than I need someone to tell me to be positive

Can't argue with anyone about too much whining being negative and self-defeating, just think that it's very arrogant of Dr Laura to want to make people pay so much for something that's so self-evident

While, like all self-help books, it's so easy for someone outside the problem to say "pull yourself together" but if it were really so easy, there would be no market for the books

I'd actually prefer to spend the $25 in the Harlequin bookshop and get the sympathy and support from eharlequin members while blogging and sharing positive thoughts on reading and life in general

I have as many and as few reasons and excuses for whining as anybody else and there are always some days when it is easier to pull myself together but luckily the eharlequin members are here for the hard days Smile

Amen Sister!

I try to be thankful for the blessings that are bestowed upon my family and me.  I am thankful to be able to take care of my mother's needs on the weekends, and to be able to do what I need to do for my students.   I have to stop and remind myself of the blessings in my life occasionally.

Thanks for the reminder Angel!

Hugs,

Marsha

I have never read a self-help book but it must be a lucrative business. Someone did gave me a John C. Maxwell book and it looks really nice with my other hard-bound books. I do share my rants with my hubby and he pretty much finds it all amusing. I try to be positive around my kids so they don't turn out to be pessimistic.

Maybe that is the only thing people can think to talk about? I remember the story where someone asked an old lady why she complained about her health so much. The lady said if I told you I was fine when you asked that would end the conversation and I would have nobody to talk to.

Rant away!

It's easy to get carried away and whine when we just look at the bad parts of life.  That's why counting our blessings is so important.  It gets us focused on what's right rather than what's wrong.  Wink

Oh, the wonder of it!

Angel, we all have those kind of days..... Smile  And it sounds like you have your plate full, but in spite of it, I think you're pretty upbeat most of the time!
