SUCKER BET is my favorite yet in this series!
SYNOPSIS: Gwenna Carrick is tired of worrying about what others, particularly her ex-husband, will think! She's ready to live a little... and as a vampire of around 900 years of age, she has a lot to catch up on! Unfortunately, she finds herself caught up in a murder investigation where she meets the sexy human detective, Nate Thomas. Can these two find love despite their very obvious differences? Will Gwenna's ex-husband, Roberto Donatelli, ever leave her alone?
MY THOUGHTS: I've been enjoying this series as a nice, lighter read in the midst of all the darker books I tend to gravitate towards. However, SUCKER BET may be my favorite yet in this series. A caution however.... it is part of a series and some pieces are left deliberately hanging. In addition, there are references to events in other books in the series that would be a bit confusing if one hasn't read the prior books. All of the various relationships intertwine and therefore the background history is important in order to fully appreciate this story.
Erin McCarthy excels at writing about strong women and Gwenna is certainly one of those! At first glance, her refusal to stand up to Roberto may seem cowardly but when the whole history is known, this is a woman who has endured a lot. She is from an entirely different generation than ours and it was gratifying to see her begin to open up and live a little.
Great book and an excellent read! Erin McCarthy's books do tend towards the fluffy side at times, but there are some darker issues addressed in this book. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I became especially aggravated with two characters in this tale. I won't go into details but suffice to say I wanted to smack one male character even worse than Roberto! However, the details unfortunately are on target for the situation and it is good that Ms. McCarthy addresses such issues.

Erin McCarthy
Erin McCarthy is one of my favorite authors. My favorite book is still Heiress for Hire. Glad to see you like her too!

I need to read that one as I've heard such good things about it. I'm pretty sure it's in one of my stacks around here...

I have these.
But I haven't read them yet. I've been hesitant. I love McCarthy's contemporaries but haven't tried the paranormals by her.
I bought them cause so many people have commented on how good they are.
Sad but no more in the works
Erin has said that for now Vegas Vamps are done. I agree that this was the best Vegas Vamps book.

Hi Debbie
I have this one from the library. I don't buy tradesize if I can avoid it. I love EM because her books are usually very fun. My favorite book is Heiress for Hire. That was really good. The library doesn't have all the books for this series yet so I won't be reading in order but that is okay. I'll have to start it soon before it has to go back. I'm glad that you liked it.

I'm another EM fan. I've had Heiress For Hire waiting in my tbr for a long time, but i had to find Date With The Other Side first, once i learned it was book#1. Took quite awhile, but more copies finally came up for sale, and i bought one up as soon as i could, now i just need to make time to start these.
I also have book#1 to this vampire series waiting in my tbr, for that "one day."

I don't remember that there was a book one. HFH was excellent even without reading that one. But now I am curious.
