SYNOPSIS: Irreconcilable differences. Harriet Remy is ready to end her marriage to surgeon Guillaume "Gill" Remy citing irreconcilable differences. Essentially, Harriet wants a baby, to be a mother, while Gill doesn't. Both have worked as part of an emergency medical team and Gill still loves the thrill, thrives on saving lives in the midst of chaos. The divorce papers are drawn but will the last 24 hours of this relief effort save or forever destroy their love?
MY THOUGHTS: Wow, this was a powerful tale! The structure of using a clock counting down added a real sense of urgency to the story as it was all I could do not to sneak a peek ahead to see what would happen.
Amy Andrews writes an emotionally powerful, gutwrenching story that really hits at the heart of love, both the love between partners and the love parents have for their children. Gill and Harriet are going to have a tough 24 hours as everything they know about themselves and each other will be tested.
The background of the war provides a real sense of just how dangerous but oh so valuable these types of medical personnnel really are. They risk their lives daily for people who would- and sometimes do- kill them without a thought.
And what a pleasant surprise to see that Katya has her own story! Going to order this one now.....

Nice Surprise
Oh Debbie - you have it already. What a nice surprise to find this review here. A couple of the other 10 000 challengers have reviewed it and everyone has been very complimentary.
I'm pleased you enjoyed Harriet and Gill's story. I have to confess this is my fav book of all the ones I've written. I simply loved writing 24 short pacey chapters - it just flew from my fingers.
Hope you enjoy Katya and Benedetto's story too.
If you'd like to email me Mission: Mountain Rescue might just find its way to you....

Isn't Amy Andrews the
Isn't Amy Andrews the greatest? This one really was a wonderful read for me too. What an eding! Fortunately I have one more by her, an older release, on my shelf unread. I hate to read it almost just because i want to have one in reserve. I think you will like the next one. I liked Katya a lot. The characters have some painful pasts but something about the way this author writes that hurt, the contest she gives it, just makes it a wonderful emotional read. Something about the whole medical background just changes the characters and their concerns for others.

And btw, Amy, I did pull this one out after you told me more about the setting as you were SO right that it was one that would appeal to me.

why MR should be more accessible
Deb, as part of the ongoing discussion we've had about why the Medicals should be opened up for store availability and more readership....this book is an example. This is one of the best short romances I have read, this year and last. I think maybe it would have won prizes? Is there some reader's contest for the Medical line? If there isn't, there ought to be.

I agree...
It is just sheer luck that I picked this one up in an ebay lot. And how sad is it that ebay is my best resource for this line? The store here sells out so quickly and heck, it's a line that I sure didn't realize until recently even EXISTED! And yet this is a superb book!!

Blushing
Thanks ladies - am blushing
I'm pleased you had this on your TBR pile and were able to access it immediately. It didn't do so well generally in the UK because a lot of the core med readership don't like war settings. But this was a book inside me just busting to get out.
Oooh Merri - which older one of mine are you talking about????

Keep "blushing" Amy!
you've earned every word!
Now, wasn't her "Dear Reader" letter written by Gill at the beginning of the book a stroke of genius? .... I thought it set the tone for the entire book and let us know that indeed this was going to be an emotional rollercoaster not only for the characters but for us readers, because there was so much of Gill in that letter
and if your copy didn't have the Letter (as I think UK copies didn't) ... I posted it here for Lynne ....

The letter...
really did set the tone for the rest of the book, didn't it? I just loved every moment of this one and I agree, Katherine~ Amy can keep blushing as she earned it with this one!!
I guess I can understand why some wouldn't want to read a book with war as the setting but this book was just so much bigger than that. It wasn't about choosing sides or who was right or wrong. Rather, it went beyond that to show what those med professionals do for EVERYONE in a war.

I totally agree with Deb.
I totally agree with Deb. This for me is exactly one of the things I loved about this book. Gosh, I'd like to see more HMRs with those settings. There are some things that bring humanity together sometimes...like disasters too. Yes, even in disastes, there are lotters. The US can be so divided on some things, that when I find a book that is not this ranting black/white kind of thing, it's a real treasure. I think that's also one of the things I really love about romance too. Sometimes opposite attract. Sometimes it is just good to hear the good things people do, the good things humanity is capable of doing.
