The Surgeon’s Meant-To-Be Bride by Amy Andrews

Harlequin Medical Romance # 285 – January 2007

...

Dr. Guillaume Remy and his trauma nurse wife, Harriet had loved their life of helping the suffering in war torn countries. They’d both made commitments to their MedSurg missions and neither had ever wanted children. But then Harry changed the rules when she held her nephew in her arms and later learnt that her own biological clock was ticking faster than she had thought. Gill thrived on their life in the world danger zones, and shuddered at the thought of babies. Their opposing sides to the baby issue cause them to separate. Gill had buried himself in his work, holding on to the hope that Harry would be back soon. Harry had taken the time apart to decide her future. Loving Gill had always been paramount to her, and having his baby would be her ultimate fulfillment. But she’s running out of time, and when she rejoins their field unit, Gill is eager for reconciliation. Only nothing’s changed; her drive to be a mother is stronger and his resolve not to become a father hasn’t faltered. So on the last day of their field mission, Harry feels she has no choice and she presents Gill with the divorce papers. And this begins the last 24 hours before the mission completion and Harry walks out of his life forever. Gill can’t let that happen.

I love the way Ms. Andrews begins this book with a Dear Reader letter composed by Gill, expressing his bewilderment on Harry’s about face on the baby issue and his deep fear that he is about to lose her. Both are wonderful characters that love each other deeply. The divorce papers read “irreconcilable differences” and this is the heart breaking truth for both of them. This book is the last 24 hours of their mission and how with each passing hour and moving from one medical crisis to another, they share an emotional roller coaster that shakes both to their core.

This is my first book written by Ms. Andrews, and I loved it! This is a fast paced love story that will pull at your heartstrings. Having been in a similar medical situation as the heroine, this one was particularly emotional for me. These issues were handled wonderfully, keeping the deep love between Gill and Harry always at the forefront. And though I did fear that they might not find their “reconciliation”, I was very pleased with the steps they took to get there. This is an awesome read!

24/7

Amy wrote .........

TSMTBB I think is my fav of all my books. I loved the 24 hour format - each chapter being an hour of their last day together before she leaves his life forever. It practically wrote itself and that NEVER happens

I really thought my ed would have a heart attack at the sex scene in chapter one but she said I'd created such great characters I could get away with it.  Such a wise woman  It also involved a lot more research than I normally need to do so it was a challenge from that perspective too.

Amy, I thought that sex scene was rather bold of you! ... and so delish!  ....... it's a rare thing to have such heat right from page one! .... I loved how you wrote Harry's thoughts as Gill openned the door ..... so sexy!

I loved that you used the Dear Reader letter to give us Gill's thoughts ...... it let us see that Gill and Harry really loved each other, and set the tone for the whole book ....

I can certainly see why this book is your favourite so far and how it seemed to write itself ..... Gill and Harry are characters that you've made very much alive .... both with such depth  ...... I loved that you gave us a glimpse of their future in TICB, and I hope you revisit them again some day!

How soon to do IT or not

I'm pleased you weren't too confronted by it Undecided I did worry how it might go down with the readers.

Sex from page one is always a hard sell - I know I like to see a connection first before the h and h get down to it. Giving them a prior relationship - marriage in this case - solved that problem as having the entire book happen in just 24hours doesn't leave a lot of time to establish a relationship Wink

Brisbane General Trilogy out Sept.
Sept -Top-Notch Surgeon, Pregnant Nurse.
Nov - Dr Romano's Christmas Baby.
Feb 09 - The Single Dad's New-Year Bride.

not too early at all!

I've read only a few books where the sex happens right away .... and I think they were Blazes

you set things up wonderfully .... first with Gill's POV in the Dear Reader letter (great idea!!!) ..... and then with Harry's internal battle before she knocked on Gill's door that fateful morning .....

this one I'm sure will be one of my favourites of the year .... and I'm definitely pulling out your backlist books from my TBR  ...... any recommendations on where to start?  .... I have all the NA releases   Laughing

Caring For His Child

Hi Katherine,

It was only the NA version that got the Dear Reader letter so you scored with that one. I'm only ever asked to do them for the NA market - obvioulsy you guys love them over there.

I think Caring For His Child is my next fav and it won a cataromance reviewers choice award. It's very different to TSMTBB and involves a subject close to my heart - organ donation. Fran and David are two very special characters, wounded by the slings and arrows but trying valiantly to survive.

I'd start there.

Brisbane General Trilogy out Sept.
Sept -Top-Notch Surgeon, Pregnant Nurse.
Nov - Dr Romano's Christmas Baby.
Feb 09 - The Single Dad's New-Year Bride.

Caring for His Child ....

Great, I'll pull that one out for reading next month!

I adore the Dear Reader letters ..... this is a great way for authors to let their readers know about upcoming linked books or something extra special about the one they are about to read .... for the reader who isn't online or who doesn't have the time to hunt for an authors website, the Dear Reader letter is a lovely bonus  ... I only wish more authors would include them
