3.5 Stars! ~~~ Though this is a very compelling read, I found this one a bit too harsh for me.
The Surgeon’s Miracle Baby by Carol Marinelli
Harlequin Medical Romance # 287 ~ February 2007
I adore this cover!
....
Trauma Nurse Louise Andrews had been on a working holiday in London when she met and fell in love with Consultant Surgeon Daniel Ashwood. When her term was about up and Louise began talking about staying on in London, Daniel dumped her brutally, leaving her no option but to return to Australia, where she learns she’s pregnant. A year later, beginning a new temp job at a busy Melbourne hospital, Louise is shocked to find Daniel as one of her patients. Daniel is a Consultant in the hospital and he wants to resume their affair. Louise wants to tell Daniel that her three-month-old baby is his but he doesn’t seem to care enough to even question the math on his own. Daniel came to Australia because he knew he’d been wrong to send Louise away, but he’s shocked that she has a child so quickly after their breakup. Of course, it’s impossible that the child is his, or is this miracle possible?
There is a gamut of emotions in this one; bitterness, anger, intense hurt are the dominant ones, and at times I found them to be over powering. Louise has a hard time letting Daniel back in her life, not willing to trust her heart or the heart of her son to him. Daniel has trust issues of his own because of a very painful past, and he shuts Louise out. I found some of the confrontations to be almost too bitter, too angry. I know the words they flung in their pain were credible, but I just felt so drained by it all. The truths they spat at each other were so brutal. Though this is a very compelling read, I found this one a bit too harsh for me. I think to balance out the pain and despair; their reconciliation should have been equally intense. Instead I found it a bit deflating. A compelling read, nonetheless.
Excellence: Good + ~ Steaminess: Sensual

I can see...
I can see how a book like this would be emotionally draining. Great review!

Curious
You've made me curious. Too bad this book is likely not to be on the site anymore or else I might have to put it in my cart. If I come across it, I'll be buying it.

Thanks Debbie .....
I really struggled with the rating because it is very well written ... the emotions in this one are so very real ... and in my heart I could feel the tremendous pain they were causing each other
Kel, I have several duplicates in my medicals from ebay lots ... if I have a duplicate of this one, I'll save it for you

I finally....
squeezed this one in. I was surprised I didn't find it more draining, actually. I think compared to the Trish Wylie book I'd read recently the confrontations seemed so much milder. I'm not sure, but I think if I hadn't read the Wylie book first, it would have been a more difficult read for me... if that makes sense. I did enjoy it, though, and was glad you'd posted your review that encouraged me to bump this one up the stack!

Oh, good ....
I'm glad you enjoyed it ..... I'll have to pull up the Trish Wylie ... I think you're referring to Her One and Only Valentine ... I have that one, I'll put it for an April read
I don't mind reading confrontations .. just sometimes when they are so brutal, I wonder how the words can ever be overcome because they surely will never be forgotten
glad you enjoyed this one .... it is a very good book
