Sweet Captivity by Kate Proctor (HP 1195)

Wow, this one was quite a fun passionate ride!  Hilarious, really well written (so sharp! The smallest touches really make the book)  The hero and heroine were kidnapped (because the hero is rich and from a powerful family).  The heroine accidentally helped get the hero (and herself) kidnapped (she thought it was a college prank).  The hero thinks she's in on it all and mistrusts her.  They get close and are fiercely attracted to each other.  At first they are rational and decide not to have sex because they can't prevent pregnancy, but it soon becomes apparent their lives are seriously in danger here, and they lose their inhibitions about practicalities!

Eventually they escape, and pretend to be engaged to cover up a scandal over the kidnapping.  She is in a rush to leave him and to keep secret the fact that she's pregnant.  The hero is quite determined to chase after her, and he's adorable.

Here's a funny quote from the heroine, as she tries to strip and seduce the hero:
"Didn't need your help, did I?" she gloated, triumphantly waving his trousers aloft.

The hero also at one point stops making love to the heroine in the shower, apologizes, and turns the water to freezing cold on both of them, to douse their respective passion.

The book is HILARIOUS, full of moments like this where their emotions get so intense they get grabby.  The hero is also adorable for the fact that he drunk dials the heroine TWICE after she leaves him, and impulsively drops his plans to take a flight out to her lawyer's office in an attempt to track her down (he gets drunk and causes a scene at the lawyer's office, which requires the cops).  The hero is a mess without the heroine, and it's adorable.  This book is a keeper for me.

Rating: 5/5 stars, yummity yum, funny and intense, biting humour, a KEEPER.

Hi Janet!

If this is one of your keepers then may I say you have excellent taste Smile Your review reminded me how much I love this book. I've just dragged it off my keeper shelves so that I can re-read. Yum! I think I've got another Kate Proctor here as well so must turn that out and let you know what it's like

I love books with HUMOUR and anything I've found hilarious, I've commented on.

What's that Kate Proctor book you've got lying around?  Maybe I have it in TBR.  *is eager to check*

Oooh I shall love casting

Oooh I shall love casting an eye over your keeper list Janet! It's a bit like checking out people's bookshelves.  Thanks. I like humour, too, especially if it's the hero's dry sense of humour and one liners :-) I love writing those too. I've started reading Sweet Captivity and am loving the forced proximity. I've just got to the turning off the shower bit.... Yum.  The writer in me thinks that really the humour should dilute the intensity, but it doesn't does it?  I think it's because they use it as a coping mechanism. Must get hold of some more of hers from Amazon.
The other one I've got here is 'The Price of Desire'. I'll let you know what it's like :-)

Sue

Mmmmm Shower scene...

Mmmmm Shower scene...  glad you're enjoying the read.  It is funny!

What kind of books do you write Sue?  Anything I'd have heard of?

The Price of Desire...  pooh, it ain't in my TBR.  Oh wells!

And the bit where she

And the bit where she hasn't really fallen off the bed but needed to get down there to take off his shoes <ggg>

And the bit where she refers to the family heirloom engagement ring as a knuckle duster <vbg>

Rats that 'The Price of Desire' isn't in your TBR pile. I shall look out for more of hers too.

And, no, unfortunately you won't have heard of anything of mineFrown as I'm not published. *Boo hoo* Buuut, I'm targeting Presents and my hopes are riding on a full manuscript in an editor's inbox as we speak *fingers crossed* and another full ms that was requested by a senior ed  through the Instant Seduction comp which I haven't finished yet  but am having a blast writing so better get back to work on my own hero Wink
