The Third Circle

Leona Hewitt enters a mansion with the intent to steal back a crystal that has been in her family for decades.  She works with crystals and can sense this particular stone.   She comes across a body and a man standing over the body.   She goes to flee but the man easily catches her and tells her he didn't kill the woman.   She believes him and they decide to get out when she senses the crystal.  

The man is Thaddeus Ware and he is stunned when she is able to go straight to the crystal.  She tries to unlock the cabinet where it is but can't and Thaddeus takes over and opens it and grabs the crystal.  Unfortunately a gas is released and Thaddeus breaths it in.    He realizes that this gas will probably lead to violent visions and tries to get Leona to leave before he tries to hurt her.

I don't want to give the story away.  I usually prefer contemporary stories but I always make an exception for Amanda Quick.
