I'm heading to a conference this Friday, and as I scramble to make plans, it occurs to me how different it is when a Mom is leaving town, than when a Dad is. I worry about making sure someone stops in to let out the dogs during the day. I worry that the kids all have what they need, from clean clothes to rides to school. I worry about the family having food (it's not that my dh won't cook...he will...macaroni and cheese and hotdogs--frequently every night that I'm gone). I have to have all my stuff for my workshop ready. Packing. And let's not even talk about the appt to get my haircut (I hate taking the time for that)!
When my dh leaves tonw he said, "I'm leaving town," then packs and goes.
Since yesterday was Mother's Day, I want to tell all you mothers, Happy Mother's Day! Hope it was marvelous! Mine was lovely. The kids got me a massage and a lunch out, and the youngest made dinner last night. Very nice. But seriously, I wouldn't mind if my Mother's Day was a Father's Day and the next time I left for a trip, I just had to smile a them and say, "I'm leaving town." Alas, that's not to be. Next time I leave town, they're coming with me, which means I have to make sure they have all their stuff packed, and the dogs....
I'm not going to think about it yet.
One trip at a time is all I can manage.
Any travel trips to share?? Any trips coming up for you?

I think it is the same for even an outing with our whole family: dad gets the stuff in the car while mom makes sure the kids get ready, etc.
Along with the questionable foods my kids are fed when I am not at home there is also the total disregard of bedtime. I have found the times my 'boys' have to fend for themselves together does strengthen the bond of our family.
We have a week trip to Vegas planned for this summer but will be staying close to home otherwise.

Angel,
Thankfully, my youngest is beyond the bedtime age. She's pretty good about going to bed early enough to get herself up in the morning!
Vegas sounds like fun. My dh and I have discussed a fall trip there. We're still up in the air.

My DH is a better cook than I am and he is more organized. SO I never have to worry about things. Of course, I do.

Frenchie,
Worrying is what all women do best! LOL But hey, a husband who cooks? Very cool. Mine has two specials...hot dogs and macaroni and cheese (from a box) OR creamed tunafish and peas (canned) on toast. Ugh. Ick.
We don't let him cook when I'm home! LOL
