The Ugly Dog Blog

DSC03632.jpg

So, years ago, my college-age daughter came home on a break and decided she was going to cut my youngest's hair. "Just a trim, Mom," she said. Next thing I knew, my youngest could have joined the military and not needed to visit the barber first.

So, yesterday, when my dh decided to "trim" the new puppy, I should have known better. Really I should have. But I held her while he warmed up the razor. "Use the longest attachment," I said. He did, but eventually decided it wasn't doing a good enough job. So... well, you saw the picture. Ella Fitzgerald is not longer a cute fuzzy puppy. She's been buzzed. And alas, our cute puppy is now an ugly dog. The only good news is it's just fur and it will grow out eventually. But in the meantime, I just keep telling her she's beautiful, even if it's a lie. Maybe that's what love is...looking at something ugly and saying it's beautiful because it is to you, even if the rest of the world just sees an ugly dog.. LOL

So have you ever had a fur, or hair-mishap?? Or maybe a better question is, have you ever thought something was beautiful because you loved it, even if you suspected the rest of the world didn't think so?

Chippy tufts

So, we have a new kitty in our house, ok, maybe not THAT new...but he has developed an interesting habit that we're trying to break him of. He likes to cuddle on our shoulders and as he lays there "making biscuits" (kneading with his paws) he grooms us, which awwww, we thought was SO cute until one day all three of us girlies in the house noticed that Chip has been "trimming" our hair with his grooming sessions so that now we all are sporting what we refer to as "Chippy Tufts"...two to three inch tufts of hair that stick out at odd angles mostly above our ears...seriously!

I have a hair appointment this week.

A couple of months ago, my

A couple of months ago, my four year old daughter was annoyed by the hair in her face and decided to cut it.  Luckily, it was a front section, but we are still trying to grow it back.

Self-haircutting

Oh, Cady, a kid's hair is so much worse than the dog's fur!  I hope it grows back quickly.

Love is Blind

When I was 21, I tried to give my hair some lift by perming just the crown of my head.  It was like a horrible chemistry experiment gone wrong (which is why I majored in English), and a week later all the hair broke off at the scalp.  It was a reverse mohawk; instead of having hair down the center of my head, I had a bald strip.  So then I had to do a deep side-part and sweep it way over (like a cheesy used-car salesman), and then hope a stiff breeze didn't blow it back off.  EmbarassedTrue love is the boyfriend who didn't break up with me, and didn't mind being seen in public with me despite my bad hair, and eventually married me!

LOL Oh my do I have a story!

My little brother, Scott has a widow's peak and used to shave it off when he was a kid.  He always found something to cut it off with no matter how many times my mom hid the razor, clippers, scissors, etc.  Well, he had a spiked haircut at this time and the "Peak' was growing back but wouldn't stand up straight when he tried to spike it.  Needless, to say the kids at school teased him about having a mustache on his forehead!  LOL  I came home one day and let the screen door slam shut and then I heard a scream.  I run into the bathroom to find my brother with the clippers and tearing running down his face.  He had just given himself a reverse mohawk!  LOL  He buzzed straight down the middle of his head of hair when the door startled him!  He begged me to help him even it out and wouldn't let me put a "guide" on the clippers.  I was doing pretty well evening it out and then he did it!  He jerked into the clippers so there was a big gouge in his hair!  I had to start again on the evening process and he did it again!  OMG!  Needless to say by the time we finished his hair was maybe an 1/4 of an inch long!  LMAO  My mom came home and I'm hiding behind some newpaper trying not to laugh as my brother runs into the room to make the dramatic entrance and yells, "Yes, I cut my hair!!!!".  My mom about fell on the floor!!!  She's looking over his hair and was like, "I guess it looks ok."  As he turns to the side, she freaked!  LOL  THat was the side with all the gouges!  Needless to say, we made a run for the beauty parlor and his hair was buzzed down to an 1/8 of an inch!  LMAOROTF  I will never forget that!  BTW, did I forget to mention, class pictures were three days later?!?!  Wink

Chippy tufts.........

LOL  Jayne!  That is too funny!  Luckily, my cats to do not feel the need to knead my hair!  I think my husband would totally freak out if Simba did that!  They have a very love/hate relationship going on!!!

Oh Karen!  Too funny!!!  What a guy though!  My DH would have never let me live that one down!

Chippy Tufts

Jayne, you do know that hairdressers used to cut hair like that in the 80s.  So your cat, Chippy, is obviously the reincarnation of a 1980s hairdresser.

Oh my ... chippy tufts and ugly dogs .....

you all crack me up!

(((Jayne))) .. ROFLMAO .... you kitty is so adorable! ... how can you banish him from your shoulder .... Chippy tufts or not, you just gotta love that little fella .... and I agree, your daughters are beautiful, just like Mom

Holly, ah poor pooch!  ... great name too!  Ella Fitzgerald!  .... I'm glad you are telling her how beautiful she is .... poor thing ...

can't say I have any hair or fur cut disasters ... my sister when she was 15 decided to colour her hair .... she was shocked when it came out totally black, she was going for burgundy  .... not sure how she did it but she ended up getting hair dye on the bathroom ceiling ... I remember Dad freaking out ... the hair would grow, but the only way to get it off the ceiling was four coats of paint  ... not a fun weekend in our house

great blog!

Dye on the Ceiling!

Katherine, Glad you like Ella's name.  Our other dog is Ethel Merman (my real last name is Fuhrmann...I adore saying her whole name) so Ella's name "fit."  If we'd gotten a male, he'd have been Engelbert Humperdink.  LOL  We'd have called him Bert.

And oh, man, if your sister had been one of mine, I'd have freaked.  Not so much about the hair...that grows out (as I keep reminding naked molerat looking Ella) but because of the ceiling!   I hope your parents made her do the painting!  LOL
