“The
marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of
rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop
hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no valleys to
traverse.”
– Helen Keller
Valleys–I love that quote.
Today I might end up withdrawing from Sven. Not because I can’t
write a 1000 words a day. Heck most days to have kept in thus far I’ve
written 2-3 times that simply because I do a fair portion of editing as
I go. But today I need to do some major reorganizing and editing. I
know several things have been duplicated because I’d written a scene
ahead of time when I thought of it and then by the time I’d gotten to
it in the book, I still had it but it’d altered significantly. So I
simply rewrote it. I’ve found this is very useful for me. That first
write really helps me get a handle on things. And instead of trying to
spend hours digging through the words, trying to alter what is already
there, I have found it is much more effective to simply read through
it, and rewrite it fresh. Works wonderfully for me. So there is that.
It will cut a lot out. And I’ve got several things that need to be
moved around. That’s putzy. Takes time. And well, unless by some shock
of it all I’ll be way behind the end product word count. I’m already
2,000 behind due to working on plot and such yesterday. Each day that
number grows and if I’m not careful two things can happen — I start to
get depressed that I’m not making that in actual book growth and I
don’t take the time to alter the little details I thought of throughout
the day which can add so much to my book and then forget them.
So that’s where I’m at today. We’ll see.
