Yesterday, I got in the mail an ebookwise... I now have, from a friend, a brand-new electronic book reader. And, by golly, it works! I downloaded a couple of ebooks and, while the one that I read was a shorty, it was so nice to be able to read whereever I wanted to. No more sitting behind the computer for hours upon hours just to read a book. Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmm.
And then today, after making a couple of stops (those second-hand stores just jumped out in front of the car... I swear!!) I found some books that I've been dying to get for, literally, years and years... and years!
They're not the typical books, maybe, but I read these books in my pre- to early teens and devoured them. They were my uncle's books and I loved 'em. Not sure where the originals went ~ my mom probably cleared them out aeons ago (okay, slight exaggeration) ~ and up until today I've not seen any of them anywhere.
What are they? They're four of John Blaine's "Rick Brant Electronic Adventure" stories. The first one is the same as the ones that I read and read, ad infinitum, all those years ago; a fairly plain cover and with the publishing date of 1947. The next three were all published in 1957 and have colour covers much more similar to the Hardy Boys books... you know, the blue ones.
- The Lost City
- The Whispering Box Mystery
- The Caves of Fear
- The Electronic Mind Reader
These books are all very much science & electronics based stories; in fact the latter three are all "A Rick Brant Science-Adventure Story" rather than the original "Electronic Adventure" stories.
So now, I'll be even more rabid about finding the rest of them now.
The other series that I read ~ and loved, loved, loved! ~ that were my uncle's books were the Ken Holt mysteries. Heavens if I can remember who wrote 'em, but I've been looking for them as well.
Yes I read the Nancy Drew, Bobbsey Twins and Hardy Boys, but Rick Brant and Ken Holt were my favourites by far. And just finding four of the books today... OMG... I was practically skipping out of the store.
YAHOO!
Old books, new books and two wonderful days... what more could a bookaholic want?

Oooh! They sound
Oooh! They sound fascinating, and much more interesting than the Bobbesy twins. It's wonderful to come across old gems like that, isn't it?
Oh, it really is...
Talk about making my day! And just to have the books again ~ reminds me of when I used to read them, sitting in my room, lost in a world very far removed from mine... Me? Scientific? Ha! But I loved 'em anyway.

Glad you're enjoying
Glad you're enjoying your new toy. I love my Kindle and now that I've had it for awhile can't imagine my life without it. It's wonderful and handy and they're much lighter than carrying around three or four books. I have about twenty books loaded on mine right now. The revisiting old favorites is great. If I didn't have so many new books I want to read I would do that too. I did read some favorite Nancy Drew stories last year and enjyoyed them. Add to your saying what more could a bookaholic want, MORE READING TIME!

How very cool for you!
Tracking down books you've been looking for is HUGE.
WooHoo for you!
I love Chip Hilton books.
I love Chip Hilton books. Nice clean cut highschool athlete and the mysteries he solves while playing sports. But they cost a bomb. So I'm glad you found the books that you like.

Thank you all....
Deb, it's so nice to be able to sit comfortably... the only thing is is that I'm not going to be able to upload all my ebooks to it ~ meh... I guess it's like having more than one book, right? LOL Glad that you're still enjoying your kindle... your kids sure know you, eh?
And you're so very right about wanting MORE READING TIME... pure, uninterrupted time to just sit back, relax and enjoy.
Jill, I've been looking in second-hand stores for so long that I just do it... then when I actually saw what I was looking for it took me a couple of moments to process... but, yeah ~ what a thrill!
Fake Frenchie, I've never heard of Chip Hilton books, but even if you hadn't mentioned the sports angle, I'da picked him to be an athlete... football? The NA version anyway.... Just something about the name "Chip" that says football.

I definitely will ~ and thanks!
I really have a fondness for the oldies-but-goodies stories like this... and even though they may not work in today's world, I think that there's something about these stories that's rather timeless... or maybe that's just me.
