I've always heard that location breeds creativity. Well, I'm about to put that theory to the test. We have just redecorated my office and painted it bright yellow. It has an amazing new closet with six shelves that are bolted to the studs so they won't collapse under the weight of my junk. I have more shelves on the wall, along with my collection of awards, book covers and etc. The centerpiece is a colorful painting by my favorite artist, Bobbie K Owens. I hung up some fun hats, too, including one of my late Grandpa's Sunday hats. It made me smile. Later I plan to add a chair and ottoman, but I'm at least this far. Now the test: will I really work here? Admittedly, I rarely write in my office. I store things here, work on the Internet here and talk on the phone here, but when I really want to write, I leave and go to the library or Starbuck's. I've never been creative here. Will that change in these bright yellow walls? That remains to be seen. Either way, at least I'll have a great office to think about writing in.

It sounds wonderful!
I don't really have an office per se, but I can write just about anywhere. I think hanging hats in there is a wonderful idea.

Hats, hats and more hats
My mother was a hat wearer and left many to me--I think hanging hats in your office is a great idea. Thanks, now I know what to do with all my mother's hats.

Away from office
Dana --
I'm jealous that you write so well away from your office. I can't concentrate in a Starbucks -- too many people around. I do most of my writing at a desk in my dining room that has a large window opening out to a tree with songbirds chirping away on most days.
I have a small 'bonus' room in my condo that I had thought of making my office, but I coveted that big window and the birds so I set myself there.
