Was Jesus a miracle birth?

I'm not talking about the religious aspect - I was thinking today (and y'all know how dangerous that can be Wink) about the day that's in it (9 months to Christmas) and wondered how many of the mothers out there had pregnancies which last EXACTLY nine months - to the day.

There are those of you who can't really tell, because they're not sure when to pinpoint T (as in T+9months), and there are those of us who can but are aware we went either over or under

For instance I was over with Patrick and under with Brendan and thinking about the Annunciation and Christmas Day and all that made me wonder how many women (if any) had their children exactly nine months after conception.

I've read a few books which had children being born nine months to the day after certain conjugal (or non-conjugal Wink) relations, but wonder if it only happens in books

Anybody able to confirm or deny so we can get some idea of the rarity statistics?

i don't know about exactly

i don't know about exactly nine months, but I did have one child on my due date.  It was the original date and then was pushed forward due to the ultrasound, but my little Maggie held out for her date coming around noon that day.

Cady

That works for me, Cady

especially with ultrasound and precise dates - what I love most
about it is that babies arrive when THEY decide. With Brendan the
midwife wanted to check on another mother but he didn't want to wait

She was going "don't push, don't push" and I gave up trying to explain that it wasn't me doing the pushing Wink

Who needs 9 months?

Hey, don't look at me - I have a bicornuate uterus and my kids were born: 6 wks, 5 wks, 4 wks and then 7 wks early. Because I knew they'd be early though, I ate healthy and even the smallest - at 4lbs 8 oz - came out healthy with only a slight fuzzy covering and immature lungs. All are healthy today without any disabilities. Well, they do talk back, etc Laughing

It is amazing the annoying

It is amazing the annoying comments made during birth.  With my second child, I had a horrible sinus & respitory infection.  The doctor kept telling me to cough more as it was doing a great job pushing out the baby.  Ugh.

Cady

I have no idea!

My due date was changed a few times for both of my boys because I was so big. They were both large: 7lb 11oz and 9lb 13oz. We stopped with two because I was afraid the next one would be 11lbs. or more!

Anita Mae, I am so glad all your kids are healthy. I am a twin and weighed 3lbs. 11oz and stayed in the hospital a while. (Back when incubators were new and scary.)

Hey angel - right back at

Hey angel - right back at you. God must've wanted to keep you around here for awhile, eh?

Oops - posted the same msg twice and couldn't delete so decided to change it. Laughing

Anita Mae

My kids don't talk back much (yet!) but they talk all the time! I thought only girls talked that much but my 2 boys rival any female I have met.

I would have given

Man, on time would have been great!  Or early!  But alas, my girls were 12 and 3 days late respectively.  Amelia might have been more than 3, but I was induced as they didn't want to take a chance that she'd be as late as her sis and I'd end up w/another long labor w/a c-section.  She even weighed less (8lb 1oz - sis was 9lb 7oz).  Trust me, I was glad for that!

Angel - Incubators weren't all that new.  My mom was in one in '46.  She was a 7 month baby - and not a twin.  She's pretty sure some of her problems (especially her lousy lung capacity), can be attributed to her birth.  Incs have come a loooooong way since thenSmile

9 months!

I have no idea if mine were exact, but I don't think so.  Determining the date of conception wasn't quite as easy when I was having children!  They come when it is time!! Laughing

One of my grandchildren was a premie at 4 lbs. 7 oz. He came home when he was 9 days old.  He was the cutest little thing!  Now he is 19 and it is hard to believe he started out so small.  He is normal in all ways!

Anita, you made me laugh about the talking back comment!  I'd say that is normal for all children, premie or otherwise!! Laughing

When I delivered my daughters labor/delivery was a whole different matter than it is now!  I always say I had children in the dark ages!! Laughing

Interesting discussion, Sadhbh, as always!

Take care, happy reading,

hmmmmmmm, no miracles here

Well, I lied, all babies are miracles and I have great kiddos, even if they are adults or near adults.

My first was 12 days past her due date. My second was 2.5 weeks early and my third came 4 days early. We are very glad she came early as her due date was September 11th (which now-in the US-has a horrific memory attached to it).
