I had a really bad Friday (laid off due to slow down in hospital admissions, no warning, AACK!). When I visited my friend at the Paperback Shack to moan and whine on Saturday, we decided the best remedy since I don't drink was to go for an OMG/G weekend (keep your mind occupied either saying OhMyGod! or giggling). Hence, the MaryJanice Davidson books and she broke open the private closet for the Lora Leigh reads. Thanks, Martha - it almost worked and now I am starting to get my feet back under me.

How perfectly awful! I usually pull out something light and funny and yes, MJD fits that bill. When we were slammed by all those hurricanes a few years back and living in the stone ages (no electricity for a week at a time), I pulled out Carl Hiassen. His quirkiness worked. But usually, light and funny works for me.

Lots of Mill closures/bankruptcys and layoffs taking place in our small town these days. Not a happy place for many families right now.
When i really need an escape from feeling sad, i always pick up a light romance with humour. MJD is a great choice for me as well...there's also Jennifer Crusie, Stephanie Rowe, Michelle Bardsley has a great humorous vampire series, to name a few., and lately i've been pulling out some of my old Love & Laughters to re-read. Cathie Linz's Fairy Godmother trilogy is what i started re-reading the other day.

Job stuff can really throw you for a loop...I hope things get better fast.
When I want to escape, I'll turn to television and blank out on mind candy for hours at a time, and if I *really* want to escape and can, I like to literally leave and go on a vacation, get out, get away, even if for a weekend. Reading can be an escape, but it's also part of my work world, so really escaping usually means something really different, tuning out... LOL
