What Makes A Family?

What Makes A Family? by Nicole Foster

• I love this one.

Sep 2007, 243 pgs

Silhouette Special Edition (Paperback)

#19 - 02.28.08—03.03.08

• Laurel has left her home in Montana, after her marriage fails, to start over in New Mexico. She’s a resource teacher, giving kids academic help. Tommy, an eleven-year-old boy she tutors, has lived in several foster homes and Alex, the principal, thinks without extra help and mentoring, the boy could get into trouble.

• Cort is an ex-detective who has been recuperating from injuries which almost killed him the year before. Alex thinks that if Cort mentors Tommy it will help Cort as well.

And that’s how Laurel and Cort meet. He’s all leather and motorcycles, she’s small-town conservative. She wants to be with Cort but has a secret she’s afraid will push him away if she tells him.

I loved this book. The characters are drawn together not only by Tommy but by their shared history of being hurt. Both know what it means to have other people ask them when they’ll get on with their life.

This fits the February Mini Challenge and the March Mini Challenge—New To You. For March this Author is new to me. In fact, it’s the first author-team I’ve knowingly read. Nicole Foster is actually Danette Fertig-Thompson and Annette Chartier-Warren, journalists who share a love of romance. And whose names are way too long to put on the cover of a book.

Counts: Harlequin = 18 • Other = 1

****************************

February Mini-Challenge — One thing leads to another. (I’m using parentheses since I can’t get formatting to work.)

The Brontë Project by Jennifer Vandever, heroine Sara (Sara) = A Bride for Glenmore by Sarah (Sara-)Morgan. (That’s pushing it.)

A Bride (Bride) for Glenmore = The Billionaire’s Bride (Bride) by Emma Darcy.

The Billionare’s Bride includes the “birth of a baby” = Their Special-Care Baby by Fiona McArthur includes the “birth of a baby”.(Another stretch.)

Their Special-Care (Special-Care) Baby = His Second-Chance (Second-Chance) Family by Raeanne Thayne. Both titles contain a compound modifier.

His Second-Chance Family (Family) = A Family (Family) For The Holidays by Victoria Pade

A Family (Family) For The Holidays by Victoria Pada (Victoria Pada) = It Takes a Family (Family) by Victoria Pade (Victoria Pada)

It Takes a Family (Family) = What Makes A Family (Family) by Nicole Foster
