When Valentines Collide by Adrianne Byrd
Kimani Romance # 30 – February 2007

Mathew and Chante Valentine are both relationship gurus. Mathew with a highly popular t.v. show and four bestsellers; Chante with a late night radio talk show and a her first book now on the top ten list. They’ve been married for eleven years, the first nine were blissful, but pressure was on to start a family. After nine miscarriages, Chante doesn’t want to try anymore, but she doesn’t have the heart to tell Mathew. It seems that everytime they make love he’s eager for it to be the time they finally make the one that sticks. As they both avoid the true issue in their marriage, the bickering starts. Both are passionate and this brings out their volatile side. And the war starts. First it’s Mathew’s comment on Letterman that makes fun of the school where she received her degree; then it’s a comment Chante makes in her studio when she doesn’t think she’s on air, that digs at Mathew’s on t.v. patients. The anger comes home, where Mathew has to glue down the valuables because Chante has a penchant for throwing things – at him! So their best friends con them into going on a conference for the last time as a couple, only it’s really a retreat for couples to teach them how to connect again in the bedroom. Falling in love again only makes the pain when all the secrets are out that much more painful.
When you begin reading this book, you swear you are right in the middle of a scene from the movie “War of the Roses”! Volatile, passionate, explosive, their battles only let out the steam but never get to the heart of their problems. And the sexual charge between them is enough to scorch the pages! These are great characters! I fell in love with them both. Ms. Byrd pulls you in with her witty dialogues and heated conflicts always making us smile at the antics of these two so called relationship experts. Then we get to really see the pain inside these two. Even I wondered how they were going to get over the pain and remember that they were soul mates. This is an awesome read! I read it in one sitting. This one is definitely going on the keeper shelf.

March Mini-Challenge ~~ “New-to-Me” ~ # 6 & 7
- Adrianne Byrd – Star so highly recommended this book at the end of last year’s Challenge that I had to find it. Luckily Amazon.com still had a copy and I snatched it up! I’ve been waiting for this mini-challenge to read it. Thanks Star for recommending such a great book! During last month’s Kimani promo I order her two new books and I’m so very much looking forward to reading them.

Kimani Romance - This is my first Kimani Romance. Though I’ve enjoyed and continue to enjoy books written by Brenda Jackson and Rochelle Alers, those books were in the Silhouette Desire imprint. I do have other Kimani Romance books in my TBR, and I’m looking forward to reading them. I will be closely watching the new releases and reading the Challenge reviews to discover the talented authors in this line.
If you’d like a sneak peak at Mathew and Chante, Ms Byrd has an online read about when the met … Loving Valentine

Katherine - I'm glad you
Katherine - I'm glad you liked it. Great review!! What two books did you order?
Adrianne has definitely become an auto read for me. I am going to try one of her suspense books this month. I have 2 Grooms and a Wedding and I am not going to be able to wait too much longer to read it. Can't claim her as new to me this year since that's how I discovered her last year.

Two books on the way ...
I've got "To Love a Stranger" and "Two Grooms & a Wedding" coming .... "Feel the Fire" was already sold out .... have you read it? ... is it worth looking for on Amazon?
I also ordered AlTonya Washington's "Pride and Consequece" coming in that order .... can you think of any other authors I should look out for?
I can't get over how quickly I read this book ... once I started I was so hungry to find out how it all worked out!

To Love a Stranger is excellent. I am reading Two Grooms & a Wedding this month. I have not read Feel the Fire. It's part of a series that I haven't read so I decided to wait. I bought several Kimani books by new authors. I'll let you know if I if any wow me as Adrianne Byrd.

Katherine - The Adams
Katherine - The Adams Sisters Series is older and may be harder to find, but I recommend them both and can't wait for more from that family. Measure of a Man (Jan 05) & When You Were Mine (Aug 06) Both have those qualilites that you mentioned make you laugh make you cry romantic comedies. Check your local library.

Kat, you're recommending
Kat, you're recommending this to me... because it's a good balance of comedy/love? It DOES sound that way to me, which is nice! I don't know how I feel about the nine miscarriages though! Sad! I hesitate with this book because it's also about an established couple, I'm used to reading HPs and Desires and Blazes which are usually about couples first finding passion and reuniting. (In other words, what comes before the HEA, rather than the years during their HEA). I don't think that's a bad thing, it's a refreshing thing, it's just unusual for me, LOL! If I find this one, I'll check it out.
Ha! ... We can do that!
Ha! ... We can do that! .... Adrianne Byrd gave us that in her online read ... Loving Valentine ... this is a great beginning to their love story ... :)

Kat - I agree! The online
Kat - I agree! The online pre-quel gives a great back story for these two and When Valentines Collides shows that HEA doesn't always come after the wedding.
Janet - If you like a mixture of comedy and love, try the Adams sisters by AB. See the links in my earlier comment.
