After I'd made me post about CLEOPATRA and the LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA, I had these thoughts: Why...if a mate "gets a lot", he's a "good bloke", but a chit that does is bad and a whore? Why...if a bloke "steps on others", cuts deals, works long hours, and rarely takes his family on holiday is a "go getter", while the chit is a b*tch and a b*ll buster? Hmmmmmm???? Stuff to think about, eh mates?

Definitely!
I sure wish I had all the answers... then I could fix everything up. Classic "mother complex" I think.
But you do raise some very valid points Marty.
Now all we need is people who can make changes to start thinking about it.

Just watch a show where it was the woman who had the big career and had to somewhat rearrange her son's birthday party but because she is the mother she is bad and it's talked about but it a father did that it wouldn't get talked about

HockeyJock - those are indeed questions many people have asked, and have not been able to answer. Interesting you posted this today, because we've been talking about gender discrimination in my con law class (under equal protection) - and today's hot topic was women, and the draft.

It's a double standard that caters more to mens wants/needs.

that question has been asked for years....
hopefully, sometime down the road, attitudes will change.
i started watching a new show called "Cashmiere Mafia". One of the women and her fiance were up for the same promotion. she got the promotion, and his pride was all hurt, and he broke the engagement.
If it were the other way around, she would just have to swallow it and get on with life.

Got Books?
That's the difference between ideal circumstances and
reality
Women have long known that to "succeed" in a man's world they have to do the job three times as well for a third of the rewards
Luckily doing the job three times as well isn't difficult
I've
always thought that "equality of the sexes" is a ridiculous misnomer -
as Corkwomen like to say "we're way ahead of you, boy"
Marty
have you read Cindy Dees' Medusa series yet? - those are really good
books - Bombshells, SIMs and now SRS - I'll look up the list for you

Interesting observance
that is sadly true.
Enjoyed reading everyone's take on the subject. Still thinking over mine.

I am guilty of those characterizations as well.
I think as far as being a parent I do expect more from the mom sometimes. (It's not fair but I do!)
HockeyJock you sure know how to get us women going with your subject matter. Reminds me of Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge reading women's magazines to understand them better.

Lipstick Jungle is very similiar to Cashmere Mafia. Lipstick Jungle is about two woman holding down very successful jobs and one who was at the top, slid a little down but is still very career driven.
