Widgets are the new black!

widget_fin.jpg

Think of them as web jewelry—bling for your blog; pizzazz for your profile; diamonds for your desktop. What are widgets you ask?

A widget is a small, self-contained piece of code that you can place onto, into and anywhere inside a specified area of your blog, webpage or desktop, that serves to decorate and/or enhance the content of your site. You may have noticed little animated clocks, games, calendars or weather widgets on other sites? Well, now thanks to our clever techies at eHarlequin.com, we have special book widgets that you can download for use and even place onto your personal profiles here in Community!

Now you're probably thinking...shyeah right Jayne, and I'm going to be able to install some fancy-pants piece of code, with my html-fumbly fingers. Well I double-dog-dare you! Just navigate over to the bookstore and find the book you are currently reading. There below the picture image, you'll see our new book widget. Simply copy the code from the widget and navigate your way back to your community profile and click on the edit button. On the second page of preferences, below the text input box for your bio information, you'll see a new text input box for your book widget. Just paste your widget code into that and voila, instant book widget on your profile page. You can also place a book widget of your favorite book, author or series onto your MySpace page, website or external blog. You might even want to display the book you're reading for the 100,000 Book Challenge in these same places.

Ahem...you ARE reading for the 100,000 Book Challenge, right?

Ok, so my techies tell me the book widgets currently are available for our single titles and the passion category books, but we'll be getting additional widgets for ALL our books eventually....

Are the widgets eternal?

if I use a widget on my personal blog (not on this site) .. will it still be there in six months once the book is no longer available here at the eHarl store?

sometimes I purchase books that I don't read for quite some time ... esp. if they are part of a linked series or multi-author series  .....   so often the book may no longer be here on the site  ..... if the widget will still be ueseable even if the book is sold out and off the site, will there be a "widget index" we can reference for later use?  ..

thanks!

LOL...

SHyeah right, Jayne....

That made me laugh, Jayne!  I love it when I visit profiles and they have this whole thing on the side that says what they are reading.  Widgets are cool.

Ooooh!

Can't wait until they're available for all the lines!  I had noticed them before, and wondered if I could alter them to be something I'm reading...Currently, not anything I'm reading, but I can still put links to the ones I am reading.  Wink

for EVERY book I read this year?

Just thought I'd ask given that I read ever so slightly more than "the norm"

Okay I might not go back to insert them for the two hundred and thirty that have already been posted, but it's a nice way of highlighting special reads
