Wild Child

Sara Montgomery feels she owes her Uncle Spence for turning her life around as a teenager and has worked very hard for him since.  Now, Sara and two girlfriends are taking a week's vacation in Malibu during the "Sin on the Beach" celebration.  It is supposed to be a week without laptops, cellphones and work and, hopefully with, a fling with a sexy beach bum.  Sara quickly meets said beach bum, Drew Jamison, and they begin an affair against the backdrop of "Sin on the Beach."  However, will the constant interruptions by Uncle Spence make this fling fizzle?

I didn't like this book.  It had way too much sex for me and worse than that, was Sara's casual attitude towards having a mindless fling (I guess I'm way too old for that type of attitude).  Buried in the book however, is Gus's story.  Gus is Drew's 70 year old grandfather, a three-time world surfing champ who has survived two heart attacks.  Drew doesn't want Gus surfing anymore and doesn't understand Gus' attitude towards surfing until Gus finally spells it out for him, "I'd rather die on my surfboard than sitting and watching others do it."  This attitude I can relate to as I'm facing with letting life pass me by because of my epilepsy or going to France against most of my family's wishes (although their concern is more for my finances than anything).  Gus' story re-affirms my attitude towards my epilepsy:  I'm going and doing as long as I can and I won't let epilepsy stop me.  Because of this, I'm giving the book a C+ and hope that anyone else who faces health problems will draw the same conclusions as I did.Cool

hi

This is in my TBR Mountain... one day I will get to it.

GO TO FRANCE.   You have meds to help control your illness.  You need to fill your needs and wants and desires.  If you get the chance to go and have a friend go with you to share the experience it will be the best medicine you can ever have.

Yes I am a readalholic and I don't want the 12 step program!!!

thank you; I intend to have

thank you; I intend to have the time of my life and everyone will be able to see what I did too as Burt Wolf is filming a documentary on the trip.  In any case, I've had surgery to implant a pace-maker device to control my seizures.  I'm taking Gus's story to heart!  thanks for the kind comment.Cool

I too have this in the piles

I too have this in the piles. I picked it up because the cover appealed to me and the blurb. I guess I'll get to it eventually. You go to France and have a great time. I went on my dream vacation last summer and if I never go anywhere else I'll always have those memories. I did everything I could possibly fit in. My daughter and I went to Hawaii and it was awesome. We were busy from sun-up to sundown. Just remember to take tons of pictures. Be sure and let us know when you're going.
