Natalie is the cake creator for the Wedding Belles (as the Wedding Planners continues). She has twin daughters that keep her busy, along with having some of the crankiness kitchen tools. Cooper, a pediatric heart surgeon and one time best friend of Natalie’s deceased husband, has moved back to town. Justin and Cooper had once competed for everything, including Natalie. He is coming to a crossroads in his life. Which way will he go?
For the most part this is a delightful, fun-filled read. However, based on the twins behavior and the fact that Rose has an imaginary friend, they appear younger than their stated age. I found this a bit disconcerting. It’s not to say that 8-year-olds cannot have imaginary friends, especially if there has been a traumatic event, but add it to their behavior—it just did not add up for me. The other story stopper was the mixed metaphor on pg. 94 (large print edition). The statement was: “She had no desire to be a notch on Cooper’s trophy shelf.” Completely halted my reading, dead. Hmm, there can be a trophy shelf with trophies on it. There can be notches in belts or bedposts, but I have just never heard of a notch in a trophy shelf. Oh well…
Despite these annoyance’s over all I loved Natalie, a struggling young widowed mother with busy twins, making a go of her life. She took those lemons and made lemonade. And then there is Cooper. Yum. Would I read more of Goodnight’s books? Yes, I would give her another chance.
