SYNOPSIS: Nikki Bustillo has a mission for Oracle, a mission that is important in the Athena Academy's fight against their deadly enemy, Arachne. MY THOUGHTS: *sigh* I'm trying to find something positive to say about this one and yet this is the second Athena Force book lately to not work for me. I liked Nikki's paranormal sense, her ability to sense emotions. I wish it would have been used more and that Nikki would have been more secure in herself. I think what bothered me the most about this book, other than the whole mafia thing (and yet Kate Donovan wrote an excellent book with the mafia in it and I loved it!) was Nikki's lack of confidence. I'm used to Bombshell type heroines, women who have confidence in themselves and in their abilities. Nikki seemed too insecure. I was really disappointed in this one as I'd looked forward to it after reading the last book, which was about Nikki's best friend from the Athena Academy.

Insecure doesn't seem Bombshell-like to me either and I have only read a few so far in comparison to evryone else. That's what I loved about the line and made me so sad when it was cancelled almost as soon as I discovered it..

but you're right - of all the books, Nikki has been the most insecure heroine, which is totally un-Bombshell-like!

Maybe, because I haven't
Maybe, because I haven't been reading as many bombshells, her insecurity didn't bother me. I enjoyed the book, but felt the ending left some serious strings, that I am strongly hoping will wrap up in one of the last three books.

might not have hit me the way it did if it hadn't been for what I expected from a Bombshell type heroine. And yeah, I read and reread that ending as I think far too much was left unanswered. I'm actually purposely reading something else even though I'd wanted to catch up on this line because that bothered me so.
