Last Friday and Saturday I went to a For Women Only Woman's Expo and Erie's new Bayfront Convention Center. It's right on the bayfront...and is designed to look like a ship from the outside, and from the inside...beautiful views of the bayfront.
I was invited to sit at the Borders booth, and I signed copies of August's Same Time Next Summer and this month's Once Upon a Thanksgiving. OUAThanksgiving was the big hit...mainly because it was set in Erie.
Gayle Callen (who also writes as Julia Latham) writes historicals for Avon. She's an Erie girl (though she lives in New York these days...once an Erie girl, always an Erie girl) and we've done a couple local gigs together. Here's the weird thing...her brother and my dh were both friends growing up. And now we're both friends and write romance? Life is a series of connections.
And speaking of connections, Jamie Denton (who writes for Harlequin and Kensington) came up for Saturday. Now, Jamie lives just outside Erie, and is a tranplant...but once you claim Erie as your own, you're always an Erie girl! LOL And when my first ever Harlequin, I Waxed My Legs for This?, was released, it was paired with one of Jamie's books! Another connection!
Susan Gable (SuperRomance) worked the booth next to us on Friday, and came out to dinner with us. Susan didn't sign books because her next book doesn't hit the shelves until February. She's also a transplant from Jersey, but she's made Erie her own. In February her SuperRomance, A Kid to the Rescue, and the last book in this trilogy, Once Upon a Valentine's, both come out. They're both also set in Erie...a huge connection! Yes, Susan's claimed Erie as her own. Because...once an Erie girl, always an Erie girl!
That was last weekend. This weekend? Susan and I are headed to Buffalo to speak. I'm sure I'll bring stories home from the trip!
