Yes we can.
Yes YOU can.
The earliest instance of yes you can that I remember is my mother, who got an advanced nursing degree when I was in middle school. I can still picture her poring over her books at the dining room table, up well before the rest of us, studying hard.
She did it and, by example, taught us that WE could do it—whatever IT turned out to be for me and my sister—if we worked hard enough and put our hearts into it.
This lesson extended to me becoming a lawyer and, later, a published author. Go to school, study hard, prepare yourself. You can do it.
Except … for many of us, there was a glass ceiling, wasn’t there? Sure, you can study hard, little girls and boys, but don’t reach too high, okay? We’ll tell you that you can do anything as long as you don’t want to be president. That’s off limits.
But now …
Now.
Now I set the example and work hard at the dining room table, typing out my books on my laptop. Now I tell my daughter and son that they can do anything if they set their minds to it. Now I tell them that anything—ANYTHING—is possible for little boys and girls in this country, the greatest in the world.
And now …
Now it’s not a lie.
Yes you can.

The Sky's the Limit!
We learn, we teach - it’s the circle of life all over again. It’s a blessing to be able to tell my kids that the sky truly is the limit. Great post Ann.
