I can't believe I am actually getting the first post. :)

My sister, Cherie's, water broke this morning, a month early (due date actually October 4th, but they planned to induce September 29th).  She saw the doctor this morning at around 9, and they had originally scheduled the C-section for 1 central time.  I went to bed after working, knowing when I got up I'd be an aunt!

Chase (no middle name yet) Greene was delivered this afternoon at around 2 p.m.  He weighed around 7 lbs 6 ozs.  Not much other info as of yet on his size for being almost a month early.

His breathing is slow, so they have him in the NICU unit on oxygen to keep his O2 sat up.  We currently don't know if there is anything wrong with his lungs to be causing this, but other than the slow breathing, he's good.  (And as soon as my hubby, Jeff the respiratory therapist, wakes up (he worked last night, too), I'm gonna pick his brain.)  They do have him on a med, but Mom didn't know what.  I'm guessing a steroid in case his lungs need help developing, or something to prevent infection. 

Cherie is also good.  Mom said she's talking some.  Because she was not far enough along in the pregnancy, they aren't doing the tubal yet (she was 2 days shy).

I got called off work tonight, so we might head in earlier than planned.  Regardless please for pray/send out good thoughts, for us all, but especially Chase, Cherie, Chris, and Charlie.   I'll try and post more when I know more, but if not, I'll try and get it to one of the gals.

April on being an new Aunt again.  Sending prayers your way for Cherie, baby and family that all is well.  He was a big size for being a month early..........

How are you doing?  Have you been released from hospital yet?  How did the boys make out this first week of school?  We miss you, but I hope that you are healing well.

Last night they did a procedure on Chase to help his lungs move easier and get rid of the extra CO2 in his body.  His CO2 level this morning is down in the 30's and they are happier with that. The doctor also put in a feeding tube to keep him from having to work as hard to swollow, and probably prevent him from getting food in his lungs. 

They are checking him every few hours to determine if they need to put him on a ventilator or not.  He's some stronger this morning, but they don't want him to have much stimulation, so Cherie still hasn't been able to hold him yet because they want to him Chase as still/calm as possible.

They were told last night that if he had been more premature, it would be easier to help him.  At this size/stage, his body has the will and urge to fight, which makes it harder for them to get him better faster.

Cherie is very tired/sore.  I'm sure she's not slept much at all. 

Charlie is having a tough time, as well.  He apparently cried the whole way home from the hosptial last night, not whining, but full-flegged crying.  He's asked for Cherie at least a dozen times in the 20 minutes I've been awake, and I think it's too hard on her to see him (he IS a demanding handful!), so she's currently asked that he be kept here today.

Chase Matthew Greene is slowly but surely getting better/stronger.  Yesterday I got to go into NICU and see him.  His color is great!  He's cute as a doll, too.  He was a bit fussy, but if I had an IV, a nasal canula with meds, and a tube in my lungs, I'd be fussy, too. 

He is now off oxygen.  The meds in the canula are helping with the lungs, and his dose was at 6 yesterday morning, and by yesterday evening, he was down to 5, without having to add oxygen again (they said that each time they lowered it, his O2 sat might go down where they might have to put him on oxygen again for a short time, but they haven't had to do that).  Once they have him stable at 4, they will move him from 'isolation' to an incubator, and then Cherie and Chris can finally hold him!  We're keeping our hopes up that this move will be today.

The current plan is for Chase to remain in NICU for 7-10 days before he's discharged.  (At this hospital, and maybe all are like this, I don't know, once they enter NICU, they only leave NICU to be discharged from the hospital all together.)

Cherie is doing fine.  She is currently working on pumping to breast feed.  They plan to keep her until Monday or Tuesday at this time. 

Charlie (and Momma, and Jeff and me) all had a rough time with sleep last night.  Charlie kept Momma up from 12:30-2:30, and Jeff and I both woke up at 4, finally getting back to sleep at after 7 for around an hour.  I finished Chase's afghan, though!

Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers, and continue to remember them.  I'm going to try and take a picture of him today, but it will be sometime tomorrow before I have another update for you all.  We'll be on the road again this afternoon, heading to our house in SC to visit Jeff's mom, then be back in OR tomorrow afternoon.

Here we go again -- another hurricane heading for the Texas/Louisiana coast. And again I may be in the path. All any of us in this area can do is prepare for the worse and pray for a minimum hit.

Prayers for Chase and his family.  Hugs for Marcy and hopes you are get better fast. Hugs for Papaya and the pain, behave yourself and hopes that Surfer Man can get it together and buckle down with school work and behave.

I'll be thinking of you (and all of our other pals in the Gulf Coast area) as Ike heads closer to you.  Keep us posted on how things go for your and your family.

I hate that I didn't get to meet up with you while you were here.  Holiday weekends are crazy, but that one was crazier than most.  And it wasn't even a home UT football game weekend!  I hope you enjoyed your time in the mountains and got to see everything you wanted to.

posting is slow cause kiddos and teachers are back in school, so there's a lot going on and little time to post.

Well I got my final letter telling me more information about my trip that I am going on a week from this Saturday, but leaving to drive up to my departure point a week from this Friday. I am so excited about this trip especially with having two other people that I know going with me so that will be good too. I just hope that they enjoy it as much as I have in the past. Anyway the places we are staying at in the different towns look nice so that is good. I will start gathering my clothes either tomorrow or Thursday because I will be working overnight next week at work starting on Sunday night and working through Thursday night, which means that I will be a little tired on that Friday, but I should be okay hopefully. We are going to try and leave around 2:30pm that afternoon so we can get up there before too late. We will have to get up early the next day because they are coming to get us at 7:00 am on that Saturday. Anyway it should be a fun trip. Well I had better go. All of Chase's tubes are out!  He'll be in an incubator for another day or 2, then he'll be in a regular bassinet until discharge.  Cherie was discharged yesterday, and of course, had trouble leaving him last night.  Charlie was happy to have her home, though, I'm sure.

ODDly enough, Aunt April's happy. 

Thank you all for your good wishes for my trip. I am getting so excited about it. It just sounds all so wonderful what all we will be seeing. I have plenty of film to take with me so I can take lots of pictures. I am finally go to get to go to Rhode Island, which is one of the states that I haven't been to yet, but I have been to alot of the states. Anyway it should be a very fun trip. I would love to go to Maine sometime too. Maybe I can go there next year or other time. I just love to travel. Anyway I hope everyone is doing good tonight.
